Werner Is Recalling Two Of Their Ladders, And Here Are Details Of The Potential Risks

One of the world's top ladder manufacturers is recalling two of its products for safety reasons. If you're the owner of a Werner ladder, it's important to check which model you purchased, as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently warned the public against using Werner's 20-foot and 24-foot Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders. According to an official statement from the CPSC, the ladders are unsafe because their locking mechanisms have been known to jam and fail to lock completely, which has led to 18 reported falls resulting in injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to head injuries and fractured limbs.

Sold nationwide exclusively by Home Depot — one of the hardware store that shoppers have been known to love the most — between November 2021 and February 2024, the model numbers of the ladders are ALMP-20IAA and ALMP-24IAA. "The ladders were sold in silver with a blue top and a blue label on the side rail. The label includes an oval containing the word 'Werner' next to the words 'MULTI MAX PRO,'" the statement explained. "[They] also have a long black rope in the back section." It's important to note that, although they have similar names, Werner's model ALMP-16IAA and model ALMP-18IAA Multi-Max Pro Ladders (which are currently for sale) are not included in this recall. Therefore, owners of those ladders are in the clear.

What to do if you own one of Werner's recalled ladders

In addition to stopping use immediately, owners of the two recalled Werner ladder models are advised to register themselves at www.wernerco.com/recalls to find out how to dispose of their ladder and to receive a refund from Werner. For reference, the recall number on these ladders is 25-431, and the date of the recall was Aug. 15, 2025.

Whether you've used the safest type of ladder to use when painting a stairwell in your home or while cleaning your gutters every spring and fall, most households have at least one ladder hanging around in their basement or garage. And even if yours isn't one of the recalled Werner models, practicing ladder safety is critical. Ladder-related falls are, unfortunately, the cause of more than 100 deaths and thousands of injuries in the U.S. each year. If you're unsure of proper ladder safety, a full list of tips and precautions can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's free ladder safety app. Some of the most important include matching the type of ladder to the job it is needed for, inspecting it for damage, and positioning it in a safe, level location with the correct angle setup.
