We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Fall is a season often associated with signature scents, decor, experiences, and foods. Many of us enjoy the transition to fall, because it helps to create a calm after a busy summertime or vacation season, with back-to-school routines and fun autumn experiences.  It's the season that symbolizes a fresh start, motivating us to find new opportunities, where we can connect with nature and improve our mental health. We also love to decorate our homes for the season in crafty and engaging ways, such as making a fragrant decor for fall with some simple twine and cinnamon sticks. If you want to take things a step further, though, without spending a ton of money, you can create an affordable fall pumpkin DIY to make your home smell and look amazing using a jar of ground cinnamon, some applesauce, and a container of Elmer's glue.

During the autumn season, we embrace the idea of bringing nature indoors and having our homes smell like fall. If you don't have the ingredients for this DIY in your home already, you may have to purchase them, but don't worry. Each item is affordable, with the whole craft costing just under $12.00. You can pick up a jar of ground cinnamon at the grocery store for under $3.00 easily. The applesauce cups cost may depend on what brand you buy, but this Happy Belly Unsweetened Apple Sauce is only $1.80. Lastly, a small container of Elmer's Liquid School glue costs less than $7.

How to make this DIY pumpkin

There are many DIY projects to get your home ready for the fall season. For this affordable DIY pumpkin craft, you'll first need to grab yourself a large mixing bowl. To the bowl, add in 7 ounces of cinnamon powder. Next, add two of the applesauce cups, 2 tablespoons of the Elmer's glue, and start to mix it up by hand. As you mix, you can then include another cup of applesauce into the bowl, checking as needed to get the mixture into a texture that sticks together. Next, take the mixture out in your hands, one handful at a time, and work to roll it into three small- to medium-sized balls that are shaped like pumpkins (round, but somewhat flattened to create a wider middle).

Using a butter knife, scraping tool, or something with a straight edge, you can make some indented lines all the way across the balls to make it look more like a pumpkin. Push the pumpkins down somewhat in the middle, and mold them by hand until you're satisfied with their look. Find some small sticks or use your garden shears to cut up a twig to make the stems, pushing them into the middle of the pumpkin balls. If you want to, you can accent the top with some grass leaves or moss to give it a little bit of green for your final step. These adorable pumpkins smell so good once dry, and their appearance makes a beautiful fall decor in your home!
