Page Turner's Near-Impossible Love It Or List It Reno Proves Design Has No Boundaries
The new host of "Love It or List It" isn't afraid to take major risks — and you shouldn't be either. Although she is replacing longtime host Hilary Farr, Page Turner is not new to the HGTV family. She hosted "Fix My Flip" and competed on two seasons of "Rock the Block." She is known for transforming cramped, dark homes into bright, open spaces – no matter how much work it takes to get there. Even when she is told that an upgrade is impossible, her tenacity proves that there are no boundaries when it comes to visionary design.
In a recent episode of "Love It or List It," she proved that no floor plan is set in stone if you're willing to think out of the box. She told Realtor.com: "You have a wife who was in the house with her first husband. They got a divorce, so now her new husband moves in and starts projects [but] doesn't finish them, and she says, 'Well, Page, in order for me to stay in this house' — because she wanted to list it — 'I need an open floor plan.'" The way she managed to make her client's dreams come true? By thinking beyond the confines of stairways and elevated floors. She turned a multi-level plan into a single-level space.
The daring design concept that Page Turner championed
HGTV's Page Turner says that flipping homes isn't a game or side hustle – and this high-stakes renovation is proof. If you want something done right, it's crucial to work with expert contractors to ensure quality. Before Turner completed her renovation, the living room was the lowest level, with two steps leading up, three more rising to the dining room, and another four steps to reach the kitchen and the den. Turner explained her solution: "The only thing I could do was drop the floor. I had to drop the whole thing down. David said it wasn't possible. My contractor, Matt, said it wasn't possible. I said, 'Well, the lady said she wants an open floor concept. If I want to win this and beat this guy, I have to give her what she asks for.' So I did."
No matter how HGTV fans feel about Page Turner replacing Hilary Farr on "Love It or List It," nobody can deny that she is fearless when it comes to a remodel. She elaborated in an interview with HGTV: "I made two floors [into] one. No one's done it. It was a big moment in my career, too." Turner also told HGTV that the reveal was a huge mic drop, calling the renovation the "pinnacle of her career." If you're planning a major home upgrade, like Turner's daring flip, make sure to follow the correct order to structure your home renovation, according to experts.
