Turn An Ugly Thrifted Vase Into Stunning Kitchen Countertop Storage With An Easy DIY
Clutter can gradually take over your life if you don't manage it. Maybe your bathroom vanity is covered in hair ties, or your work desk is littered with spare change, staples, and paperclips. If you happen to be looking for a DIY project, you can convert a ceramic vase into a container for your odds and ends (just one of many ways to control clutter).
Thrift stores are filled with affordable vases, and since it doesn't matter what the vase looks like, it will be easy to find one for this project. To turn the vase into storage, however, you'll need to design a lid that will match the rest of the vase. Necessary materials include a wood round that matches the diameter of your vase, as well as some paint. Since the paint needs to stick to a smooth surface, you should avoid latex paint, which will have trouble sticking, and go with a Rust-Oleum spray paint in the color of your choice. Finally, you'll need a decorative knob, such as these brass four-leaf clover knobs, and a drill.
Converting your vase into a countertop receptacle
The first step is to take your vase and wood round outside and spray paint them. Once they are dry, you can drill a hole in the top of your wood round. Insert the threaded end of the knob into the hole and screw it down tightly. Then you can place the lid on top of the vase.At this point, you can call the project finished, or you can add some more designs.
With small brushes, you can use other paints to create detailed designs. You can also buy laser-cut stickers from Dollar Tree, create a design using a Cricut, or purchase stencils if you're not confident in your artistic abilities. The Dollar Tree also offers plenty of other budget-friendly materials you can use to decorate your vase.If you're really feeling ambitious, you can also cover your vase with ceramic tiles. This works best for a square vase, because flat tiles aren't designed to cling to angled surfaces. All you need is some grout and colorful ceramic chips.
Use your repurposed vase as elegant bathroom storage, to hold supplies in your home office, or as a cookie jar in the kitchen (it lacks an air-tight seal, so don't use it for food items that could get stale). Of course, it's also great as a simple piece of home decor.
