Homeowners Planning Bathroom Remodels Brace For Tariff Impact

President Donald Trump announced additional tariffs that may impact the cost of home remodels, including bathroom remodels. Per his post on Truth Social, Trump said, "I will be imposing substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States." If you're planning to do some remodeling work, you may want to consider buying now, before prices increase significantly. In fact, if any of the furniture you need for your bathroom remodel is made or has parts made outside of the U.S., you could see a rise in prices. So, it may be time to add those components to the list of household items homeowners are stocking up on in anticipation of tariffs.

CNN News reported that the new tariffs, including ones on trucks and branded drugs, are being pushed out ahead of the Supreme Court case that will examine whether the President has the legal authority to impose all of these tariffs. Until then, individuals looking to improve their homes will be the ones feeling the pinch on their pocketbooks. This also means a continued rise in the cost of popular home items and upgrades, not just in the bathroom.

How tariffs will affect bathroom remodels

This isn't the first time Trump has announced the launch of tariffs that could harm homeowners. Just days before he announced the foreign furniture tariff, he announced a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, as well as a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture. This is all coming on top of tariff increases that have been happening since Trump took office in January.

In June, US News & World Report had already begun discussing the home remodel projects that would start increasing in cost. Even back then, the outlet's list included bathrooms. At that time, only items coming from a few countries were seeing a cost increase. Still, as more countries are probably being added to the list soon, prices are likely to continue rising. So, what may have been a $12,000 remodeling project with the initial round of tariffs could increase exponentially depending on the scope of work you plan to do.

If you're looking to buy a recently remodeled home, the tariffs could pose a costly risk to homebuyers as well.
