"Bloody" candles are one unique, spooky project you can tackle. They're a perfect touch for hosting an unforgettable Halloween bash or for a playful addition to your favorite fall pieces. All you need are some common household items.
To create this cheap and easy Halloween decoration you can DIY, you'll need red crayons, white stick candles, candle holders, and, of course, a flame. It would also be helpful to lay down cardboard or any other surface you don't mind getting red wax all over. You can pull off this super simple DIY candle in less than five minutes. Whether you're in a pinch for decor or you just want to try a new DIY, read on to learn how to create these "bleeding" candles.
How to make bloody candles
To prepare for this DIY, start by unwrapping two to three red crayons. Crayola Crayons are the best option since they melt at a relatively low temperature (around 105 degrees Fahrenheit) and have a consistent, smooth wax formula. If you want a more natural option, beeswax or soy-based crayons should work fine. Both have slightly higher melting points but still low enough to melt quickly. However, they might yield slightly less vibrant "blood" since these crayons are made with natural dyes.
Once your crayons are unwrapped, place your white candle sticks on your candle holders and light them. Now you can get to work creating that spooky dripping "blood" effect. Simply hover your red crayon over the flame and allow it to melt over the white candle. Be sure to call upon the magic of Halloween while you stare into the flame — store bought magic is fine if you don't have time to conjure your own. But seriously, be sure to keep your fingers away from the flame and lava-hot wax. Once you are satisfied with the "blood," the result is this creepy-cute Halloween decor your guest will gush over!
