What To Know Before Buying DeWalt's 60V Max Backpack Leaf Blower

When autumn rolls around, you definitely want a powerful leaf blower. In addition to clearing downed leaves in fall, this tool can be helpful at other times of the year for clearing lawn clippings, light snow, and gutter debris. If you're looking for power in a leaf blower, backpack designs can move a significant amount of air. The majority of them have air speeds exceeding 145 MPH. Backpack leaf blowers are ideal for residential users with large yards and lots of trees or commercial users. DeWalt has made high-quality 40V battery-powered handheld models for several years, but if you want a bit more power in a backpack-style design, DeWalt hasn't had such an option -– until now. When you want a reliable power tool brand that has a range of excellent tools, DeWalt is one of the best power tool brands for both indoor and outdoor products. Demanding DIYers and contractors have relied on DeWalt tools for decades — including leaf blowers — but the latest backpack model is taking longer than expected to launch. 

In early 2025, DeWalt announced it would soon be selling a backpack-style leaf blower using 60V technology to deliver maximum power. The leaf blower (available in three kit options) was originally scheduled to launch in fall of 2025, so fans of the brand expected that it would be available for purchase soon. However, no more information has been officially released since then. Here are the key details we've gathered about the DeWalt backpack leaf blower and some aspects that we still aren't sure about.

Official product photos of the backpack blower indicate it will require two 60V batteries to operate. At this time, you can purchase the batteries and charger that the backpack blowers will use, even though the new leaf blower hasn't yet hit the market. The DCBL570Y2 blower kit includes the leaf blower and two DeWalt DCB612 60V MAX 12Ah batteries ($269 each on Amazon) and two DCB118 chargers ($90 each on Amazon). The DCBL570Z2 blower kit will ship with two slightly longer-lasting DeWalt DCB615 60V MAX 15Ah batteries ($398 each on Amazon) and two DCB118 chargers. The 15Ah battery requires 90 minutes to charge, while the 12Ah battery charges in 75 minutes. You should understand these DeWalt interchangeable batteries use Flexvolt technology, meaning you can use them with either a 20V or 60V DeWalt power tool, as the battery automatically changes voltages as needed. If you already have the compatible batteries in your collection, the DCBL570B model kit option includes only the backpack leaf blower with no batteries or chargers. 

The DeWalt backpack blower offers digital speed control, so you can adjust the air speed to match the type of job you're doing. The variable speed trigger has a lock to help you maintain the desired speed. The heavy DeWalt unit also has adjustable shoulder straps and a waist belt that make it easier to carry and wear the equipment for long periods of time. This thoughtful detail could make the leaf blower a good investment for those with large yards.

Although the new backpack blowers from DeWalt are listed on the company's website, they aren't available for purchase at any retailers at the time of this writing. The products also do not have a price listed on DeWalt's website, nor do they have any customer reviews yet. DeWalt hasn't yet uploaded user manuals, specifications, or other digital information on its website for any of the three kit options. However, a YouTube video shared by Spears Construction Supply demonstrates some specs for the DCBL570B model. It lists the backpack blower as offering an air speed of 160 MPH, an air volume of 855 CFM, and a noise level of 64 dB. Of course, the YouTube video was not shared by DeWalt itself, so it's not clear if these are official specifications or projections gathered from early in the design process.

DeWalt issued a press release in March 2025 that announced the new backpack blower kits, but it did not give a specific date for their availability, other than an estimated launch in fall of 2025. Confusingly, an Instagram post shared by ToolsByDesign in 2024 said the DeWalt backpack blower would appear in early spring 2025, which may have contributed to some misunderstanding about the actual release date for the product. However, based on the information in the DeWalt press release — and considering that leaves are already falling in many areas — we'd have expected to hear more about the product or even see the backpack blower on store shelves by now, which is causing some confusion and frustration for fans of DeWalt products.
