We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.
When shopping for a new refrigerator, popular appliance brands are usually the go-to for homeowners. Major brands frequently release new models with competitive features, warranties, and repair and replacement options; making them far more favorable to discerning refrigerator buyers. With so many of these branded appliances enjoying high ratings, it can be tedious to figure out which ones are truly the best.
Fortunately, we've done all the work for you. Below are 15 popular brands' refrigerators ranked according to real customer testimonials. We evaluated the number of reviews and star ratings to identify which brands are superior, but our exact criteria for determining this ranking is explored further in the methodology below. We dove into the refrigerator features and advertised perks, but also took a look at what real people had to say. These are the top refrigerators offered by recognizable brands. Let's see how they compare when pitted against one another based on reviews.
The Amana Refrigerator works great aside from its water and ice dispenser
The Amana brand is found at many popular retailers, but the name isn't as recognizable as its parent company, Whirlpool. Amana's best-rated refrigerator is the Amana 24.6 Cubic Foot Side-by-Side Refrigerator which includes three adjustable bins for gallon jugs, electronic temperature controls, and a pre-installed ice and water dispenser. There are a few consistent customer concerns, the most common being that the ice and water dispensers are too close together. Because of this, they're easy to accidentally trigger simultaneously. The ice maker compressor is loud when operating and there are other negative comments about the shelving, lighting, and general storage setup.
Given that it's reliable but has a few minor downsides, this brand made the very bottom of our list. Just over 50% of the 1,336 reviewers gave it five stars, resulting in an average of 4.1 stars. One customer summed up this popular refrigerator as a "No frills large capacity fridge. Makes quite a bit of noise when it is running, but keeps groceries cold!"
The Maytag Refrigerator includes PowerCold Technology and a spacious French door design
Maytag is a well-known company and ranks among the most popular washer and dryer brands in the U.S. However, it falls short in comparison to other popular brand-name refrigerators. The Maytag 25 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator is ENERGY STAR-rated and features PowerCold Technology that filters air from the freezer to cool the fridge section. The French door design makes the fridge feel spacious and easy to organize. However, for the hefty $2,500 price tag, the ratings and reviews fall short.
Over 2,400 people rated the Maytag refrigerator, but only 61% of them gave it a perfect five stars. The overall rating is a respectable 4.3. Most complaints refer to one-off manufacturing defects. Don't shun this fridge too quickly. For the most part, people are satisfied; leaving comments like, "We've had this refrigerator for about a month now and are very happy with it — All in all there are a few complaints but none that are a deal breaker."
The Samsung Fridge has a modern look for style-minded kitchens
People online can't agree if this appliance brand is worth buying, which could help explain why Samsung landed at the third-lowest spot on our list. Its top-rated fridge, the Samsung 27.4 Cubic Foot Side-by-Side Refrigerator, has a modern design and minimal display dispenser. It's ADA-compliant, which means it's within arm's reach and operable with one hand. Many people have no issues with the refrigerator — it's only when it needs repairs that concerns arise. The general consensus is that Samsung repairs are often inefficient, expensive, and frustrating to work with.
Due to some dissatisfied reviews about repair and warranty concerns, Samsung's fridge received five stars from 62% of the 3,179 reviews, averaging 4.2 stars. The reviews that aren't about repair issues don't have much to complain about. According to one reviewer, " Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I chose this one because it was the largest side-by-side that would fit in the spot I have. This Samsung refrigerator does have some pros and cons. But I find the cons to be minor inconveniences."
The Midea Refrigerator is designed for basements and garages
Midea is one of the less popular brands out there, as its top-rated refrigerators are lower-tier according to reviews. The Midea 18.1 Cubic Foot Top Freezer Refrigerator is an adequate secondary fridge for a basement or garage. It works in a wide temperature range, has electronic controls, and no handles, so it doesn't stick out. It's easy to fit into small, inconspicuous spaces for extra food storage, and it meets ENERGY STAR and ADA compliance requirements. The only real downside is that the ice maker is sold separately.
71% of reviewers had only good things to say about this fridge and gave it a full five stars. There are over 3,892 reviews, resulting in 4.3 stars total. Some customers reported the fridge doesn't work in garages as well as advertised. However, others left reviews like, "Had for three weeks. So far so good handling a hot garage." Another said, "Perfect size for those who need a second refrigerator. Also would be ideal for smaller living areas without sacrifice at a great price."
The Hisense Fridge's warranty is twice as long as other refrigerators
The Hisense 17.2 Cubic Foot Bottom Freezer Refrigerator is a Lowe's exclusive which comes with a unique benefit that keeps it out of a lower ranking. Most refrigerators have a one-year warranty with purchase, but this appliance comes with a two-year warranty instead. In addition to this promise of reliability, the Hisense fridge is ENERGY STAR certified. It's a relatively small appliance and is ideal as a secondary fridge for larger households.
There aren't many features that make this fridge stand out among the others, but it still has a commendable rating. Over 76% of people gave it a perfect rating, resulting in an average of 4.3 stars. There are 6,297 reviews, with many leaving comments like, "I love it. It's a very nice refrigerator, especially for the price. The freezer does not have a light, but so far that's not been an issue."
The Hotpoint Fridge can be rearranged and customized for optimal storage
Don't let the look of this Hotpoint appliance steer you away. The Hotpoint 15.6 Cubic Foot Top Freezer Refrigerator looks like an outdated, small-size fridge, but despite the limited storage space and mundane look this refrigerator has some hidden perks. For one, it is ADA compliant. The other feature that makes it slightly better than the previous options is that the shelves aren't made of acrylic or glass. Instead, they are a wire-rack style that can be moved around and adjusted as needed.
The 1,107 people who left reviews of this Hotpoint Fridge gave it an overall 4.4-star rating. 66% of them gave a solid five stars, leaving feedback like, "It's a great little fridge, very compact so every little bit of space counts. It has some very clever features, like one of the door shelves is designed in such a way that it easily accommodates storing a wine bottle, standing up."
This LG Refrigerator is exclusively sold at Home Depot
This Home Depot exclusive ranks three spots above the Lowe's exclusive and is produced by a different brand. The LG 24 Cubic Foot Top Freezer Refrigerator is designed for easy access with reversible doors and pocket handles. It's an ENERGY STAR-certified appliance and the only real downside is that the ice maker has to be purchased separately. This fridge also isn't as easy to find due to its exclusivity as a Home Depot product.
There are 1,154 reviews and 73% of them left a perfect rating. This LG fridge has a 4.4-star average overall and sports a higher rating than some of early 2025's highest-rated refrigerators from Home Depot. One customer listed the pros and cons that fully sum up this popular brand-name appliance: "Pros: Garage ready, stainless steel, top freezer, optional ice maker, adjustable refrigerator/freezer shelves, LED lighting in refrigerator, very quiet operation, and excellent delivery service. Cons: Not smudge proof, may require an appliance extension cord if outlet is not behind refrigerator, freezer is not lit."
The Magic Chef Fridge is compact and excellent for small spaces
The Magic Chef refrigerator is remarkably high on this list, considering it's only three times the size of a mini fridge. The Magic Chef 10.1 Cubic Foot Top Freezer Refrigerator is less than half the size of full-size fridges, yet still offers plenty of features and is highly praised by customers. It includes an electronic thermostat, meets ENERGY STAR certification criteria, and has door storage for gallon containers. Keep in mind that the compact size is great for small spaces, but it is not designed for RV use.
There are 8,718 past reviewers of this product and 67% of them left five stars. It has a 4.4-star average overall, which is especially impressive given its size and number of testimonials. If it were slightly cheaper, it would compete with Home Depot's Vissani brand as the most reliable fridge under $500. One person even recommended using this fridge for office spaces: "The refrigerator and freezer maintain temperature well. It is the perfect size for my office space. The only negative aspect is that the instructions recommend defrost and clean every three months."
The GE Refrigerator has all interior controls for a sleek exterior look
GE partook in the minimalist modern trend with its GE 27 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator. As a result, they ended up with one of the best refrigerators on the market. Instead of showcasing a bunch of fancy controls and dispensers on the outside, this refrigerator hides them on the interior. In addition to this streamlined design, it uses Turbo Cool and Turbo Freeze settings to efficiently lower temperatures after doors are opened and closed. It also features advanced water filtration, though the filter must be purchased separately.
Many customers responded positively to these features, as 66% of them gave five stars. Out of 13,084 reviews, it maintains a 4.4-star rating. One person praised the overall look and design of the fridge without any complaints, "Simple design, so much space. No messy dispenser in front. No dated digital displays. Icemaker in the freezer frees up so much space in the fridge."
The Frigidaire Fridge was voted one of the best refrigerators in 2023
The Frigidaire 26 Cubic Foot Side-By-Side Refrigerator was rated the best overall side-by-side refrigerator by reviewed.com (USA Today) in 2023, and it also made our 2025 ranking. This refrigerator was designed with an EvenTemp cooling system and a PurePour water and ice filter that guarantee optimal performance. The high-capacity ice maker holds 4 times more ice than most 2024 refrigerator brands, and many customers applaud this component specifically.
Nearly 20,000 people have reviewed this refrigerator, and 67% of those reviews gave it five solid stars. It has a 4.4-star average with glowing testimonials like, "We're loving our new refrigerator. There's plenty of room, and the ice maker is awesome! I like that it tells us when the door has been left open. It has a sleek look, and the lights over the ice and water dispenser make the Frigidaire even more attractive. We are enjoying our purchase."
The Insignia Fridge is very affordable for its size
The Insignia 18 Cubic Foot Top-Freezer Refrigerator doesn't use the latest technology and doesn't have an overwhelming number of convenient features. It's a straightforward refrigerator that doesn't look like anything special. However, it made number five on our list of popular brand fridges because of how well it operates. This refrigerator is ENERGY STAR certified and has recessed handles for a modern, minimalist look. It's smaller than most other refrigerators on the market and costs $799, making it a cost-effective appliance for smaller budgets.
Out of the 2,549 reviews, 74% gave it a flawless rating. It has a 4.5-star average, and complaints are minimal. One person highly recommended this refrigerator, stating, "If you're looking for a reliable, no-frills refrigerator that does exactly what it's supposed to, this Insignia model is excellent. After using it, I can confidently say it's perfect for someone who wants practicality and functionality without overspending on unnecessary features."
The Cafe Smart Fridge comes in multiple finish options and has customizable handles and knobs
The Cafe brand name isn't too popular, but you've likely heard of GE Appliances. Cafe is a subsidiary of GE Appliances and Haier, but isn't as well-known as either of them — aside from its appliance microwave drawer that trended earlier in 2025. Despite being lesser-known among appliance brands, the Cafe 27.8 Cubic Foot Smart French Door Refrigerator made it to our top five. This fridge is designed for customization and provides designer choices beyond what most fridges offer. You can pick the finish, knob, and handle options so it seamlessly fits alongside other kitchen decor. It also has smart features, an autofill dispenser, and is ENERGY STAR certified. As if this wasn't enough, the back wall of the fridge is an LED light panel that fully illuminates everything it has to offer.
It's no surprise that 74% of the 4,215 reviewers gave the Cafe fridge a five-star rating, earning it a 4.6 average. Customers applaud the fact it's an upscale fridge without going over the top with complicating functions. "It easily cleans up. And just looks gorgeous. Quite the subtle upgrade from what we had before. No fad-like extras, just classy and upscale a bit."
The Whirlpool Fridge is outfitted with modern technology that optimizes food storage
One of the highest-rated refrigerators from Home Depot is the Whirlpool 25.2 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator. This refrigerator is outfitted with innovative fridge technology but still meets the requirements to be an ENERGY STAR appliance. It uses EveryDrop water filtration, FRESHFLOW produce preserver, and an Accu-Chill temperature management system that adapts to preserve food. The fridge is operable via electronic temp controls, making it a state-of-the-art appliance.
There are 8,560 reviews for this Whirlpool refrigerator, and it's one of its top-performing models with a 4.5-star average. 66% of people gave it a perfect rating. While the refrigerator is capable of running at top performance, some reviews express how there are extra steps to take in order to get the fridge to work as well as it claims. "The price was right, but not the features we necessarily wanted, as this was what was available in the aftermath of COVID. We do a lot of our own cooking, and we make use of our refrigerator. I have installed an AcuRite thermometer in the refrigerator and freezer compartments to monitor performance. We feel that the owner must be vigilant about certain features and requirements in order to get expected performance."
The GE Profile Refrigerator is a massive Smart fridge with hands-free features
When it comes to highly-rated refrigerators that are worth every penny, GE Appliances always makes the list. The GE Profile Smart French Door Refrigerator is number two in our ranking, passing the Cafe and Whirlpool fridge by a slim margin. The lack of customization is far outweighed by other design components. This fridge is outfitted with a hands-free autofill dispenser, an LED backwall, adjustable temperature doors, a rotating door bin, an ENERGY STAR certification, and smart technology.
There are over 10,700 reviewers and counting. 72% left a full five-star rating, resulting in a 4.5-star average. One customer summed up how this refrigerator met all expectations: "I couldn't be happier with my GE refrigerator! It keeps everything perfectly chilled, runs quietly, and has a sleek, modern look that fits beautifully in my kitchen. The interior is well-designed with plenty of adjustable shelves and great lighting, making it easy to find what I need."
The Bosch Fridge has outstanding ratings and superior technology
Bosch is already known as the most reliable dishwasher brand of 2025, and it also takes the cake for refrigerators. The Bosch 800 Series Smart French Door Refrigerator is a technological marvel designed to preserve food better than any other appliance on the market. It meets ENERGY STAR standards while combining four technologies in a FarmFresh system. It's a smart fridge with a Home Connect app, has removable shelves and door bins, and uses a high-quality filter.
The customer reviews do not disappoint. According to testimonials, this refrigerator is as good as it's marketed to be. 81% of the 2,935 reviewers gave it a perfect five-star score, resulting in a 4.7-star average. It has a remarkable number of reviewers given its high price point of $3,999. Even customers who are used to luxury, customized brands like Sub-Zero recommended this refrigerator, "So far we like the refrigerator. We had a Sub-Zero for 25 years, so this is a step down. Other than the doors not closing well and it being smaller — we like it fine. Love the ice maker and the smaller cubes. And love the crisper drawer."
Methodology: How we ranked popular brands' refrigerators according to real reviews
When choosing the most popular refrigerator brands, we scouted popular appliance retailers. We aimed for a presence in three major chains: Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowe's. We chose the top brands from those websites and chose one appliance from each one (some brands with multiple subsidiaries or premium lines appear more than once). The chosen appliances have a high number of reviews, high star ratings, and a specific percentage of 5-star testimonials. We cut any refrigerator brands that didn't meet our set of requirements: at least a 4.1-star average and more than 1,000 reviews. Each refrigerator also had perfect reviews from at least 50% of the reviewers, ensuring that the majority of people are highly satisfied with its design and functionality.
