This Creative Hack Turns A Quilt Into A Chic Disguise For A Common Household Eyesore

Every home has an electrical panel. As unsightly as they are, they serve a much-needed function. They keep potentially dangerous circuit breakers, filter plates, wires, and more safe from curious fingers or environmental factors. If only the box itself were hidden from sight as well. In some houses, the panel is located somewhere off the main level, such as in a basement or garage. Other homeowners aren't so lucky, especially those in older homes, and can wind up with ugly metal door smack dab in the middle of your living room or hallway. While there are store-bought options to cover them up, you can easily hide the eyesore of an electrical panel in your home with this simple solution — a quilt. With their rustic aesthetic, quilts embody the trending cottagecore and modern farmhouse aesthetics.

The key to this project is the curtain ring clips used to mount your makeshift tapestry. There are plenty of fun ways to hang your favorite quilt, but the clamps ensure you don't need to cut or sew anything to get the job done. Simply clip them to the top of the fabric, and loop the hoops over a tension rod or wooden curtain rail mounted to the wall. The material will hang down over the electrical panel, covering up the not-so-pretty hardware. Voilà! You've reclaimed the beauty of your home without any drastic renovations or costly artwork.

How to mount a quilt hack over your electric panel

Before starting on this project, you'll need to pick up a few items, including curtain mounts like the Amazon Basic Clip Rings and a rod with brackets. You'll also need a quilt, of course. If you don't have one for the occasion, consider thrifting one to save money. Look for colors and patterns that suit the design of the room in which it will hang. You can also turn a woven blanket into chic wall décor, or opt for a more neutral item, like a bamboo mat. So long as it hangs down over the electrical panel, matches the length of the curtain rod or tension rod, and isn't too thick for the clips, your quick no-sew hack will work. With supplies prepped, it's time to put it all together.

Here is an easy DIY you can complete if you need to cover up an electrical panel that is a complete eyesore! And don't come at me, the panel is still completely accessible, and we didn't drill any holes where there are wires. 🤪🤪🤪 (cause I know the Internet trolls love to find fault! 🤣🤣) The final staging of this home came down to the wire and I was lacking a piece of art that was adequate to cover the panel. So in a pinch, I decided to use a thrifted quilt that I found at a garage sale. I bought some of those little clip on curtain rings. Then Hector hung a curtain rod across the top of the panel and we slid the quilt right on. Now, when we need to access the electrical panel, we just slide the quilt out of the way. And this quilt created a fun focal point in this little landing area. I think it turned out so cozy and cute and was a perfect solution to cover up the new electrical panel. Pinch the top of the quilt between the clips, and place the loops over the rod. Mount the rod using the curtain brackets. A great option for this fuss-free project is the self-adhesive, no-drill hardware like Codoule Adjustable Rod Hooks. The great thing about this solution is that it can be customized any way you'd like. With the pole mounted, you can easily swap out the blanket for another in any style or color. Or you could hang a heavy poster in its place. You could also paint the rod and clips to suit your existing design palette. However you decide to personalize your new electric panel cover, you'll have new wall art where there was once an eyesore. Plus, it's easy, affordable, and renter-friendly.
