The Kitchen Essential People Are Repurposing For Adorable Christmas Tree Decor

There are many creative Christmas decorations you can make with household items if you know where to look. The kitchen is a great place to start, offering all sorts of items that can double as craft supplies. One of the bare essentials you use every day could be the perfect base for adorable, creative ideas and a stylish way to give old silverware a second life on your Christmas tree. We're talking about forks! Of course, since this is a utensil you use regularly, you may want to pick up some extras, but they're one of those kitchen items that are easy to find at the thrift store for very affordable prices. Your extra forks can add some art to your life through cute reindeer and Santa Claus ornaments, as well as adorable hearts and unique angels.

There's no need for waste here, either. You can create one ornament with the tined part of the fork and another with the handle. Of course, there are some supplies and tools that you will need on hand to complete a project like this. You will need something you can cut the forks with, as well as something you can easily bend the parts with. Though you're not making a ring, a ring mandrel and a malet are handy for bending fork parts, or you can use some pliers to bend the tines. You can cut the fork with a Dremel tool and a cutting disk, but bolt cutters or even a hacksaw can be used in a pinch. You will also want a vice grip to hold your fork in place when cutting and bending.

How to create your fork ornaments

While there are all sorts of Christmas ornaments you can make from forks (including cute Santa heads with dangling beards), one of our favorite finds is from TikTok, where hillaryyoundblood created a heart from the handle of the fork and a cute reindeer head from the rest. The TikToker cut the handle off, bent it to form a heart, and added a ribbon to hang it with. For the reindeer, which can be pretty the same as the Santa head, the tines are cleverly bent, eyes and nose added, and another piece of ribbon for hanging. You can use small gems for the eyes on both, in whatever color you prefer, and any jewelry craft glue will work great.

You can put spoons to use as well, and combine them with your forks to make unique angel ornaments. The entire spoon makes up the angel's head and body. Cut the handle off your fork and use two of the tine ends as the angel's wings, glued to the spoon. You can use small gems and jewelry pieces to embellish these, and then punch a hole in the top of the spoon to put a hook through to hang on the tree. Silverware offers reusable thrift store finds that can easily be turned into breathtaking Christmas decor, like these crafty ideas.
