Trimming is an important step for maintaining any hedges in your landscaping, as it allows the plant to grow in a healthy manner by encouraging sunlight to reach the leaves on the interior of the hedge. Using a power hedge trimmer is critical for many homeowners, allowing them to trim large plants in less time than doing the work with manual tools. If you're in the market for power hedge trimmers, one of the best-ranked power tool brands is DeWalt. In addition to being well-known as a leader in the power tool market, DeWalt has a reputation for developing outdoor equipment offering high levels of performance and durability. DeWalt's outdoor power tool lineup of more than 250 different items includes all the essential residential tools you could think of, from snow removal gear and leaf blowers to lawnmowers and chainsaws.
DeWalt manufactures and sells more than a dozen hedge trimmer tool and combo options that run off either battery or gasoline. DeWalt continues to innovate and add new machines to its lineup, recently announcing two powerful models — the 60V MAX 22-Inch Cordless Articulating Head Pole Hedge Trimmer (model number DCPH675B) and the 60V MAX 22-Inch Cordless Fixed Head Pole Hedge Trimmer (model number DCPH673B). DeWalt has not issued a press release introducing these tools, but they do appear on the DeWalt product website with a "Coming Soon" label. Among DeWalt's tools that are game changers for yard and garden projects, the manufacturer has only one other 60V hedge trimmer currently available — the FLEXVOLT 60V MAX 26-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer. It costs $249 for the tool only but differs from the soon-to-be-released models because it doesn't have an extension pole.
Features and benefits of DeWalt's new hedge trimmer models
The 60V MAX 22-Inch Cordless Articulating Head Pole Hedge Trimmer and Cordless Fixed Head Pole Hedge Trimmer will both be available with the tool only or with an included battery kit. The product pages on the manufacturer's website for these tools do not have pricing information. Aaron Griffith, DeWalt's Director of Professional Dealer Sales, briefly mentioned the new pole hedge trimmers in a video interview with Farm Innovations at the 2025 Equip Expo held in late October, stating that both trimmers will be available in 2026 but provided no other details.
The pole for the model with the articulating head can extend to 92 inches, allowing users to reach the tops of hedges several feet in height. The fixed head model has a maximum extension length of 78 inches. The other primary difference between the two soon-to-be-released trimmers is the articulating head model provides several different positions for the blade, allowing users to create almost any kind of shape in the hedge, even sections of the plant that are several feet off the ground. The fixed head has only one position. Both machines use dual-edged blades with a 1 ¼-inch cut capacity and supply an LED display where you can measure the remaining battery life.
Why DeWalt's 60V extension pole hedge trimmers stand out
Are these high-end DeWalt tools worth splurging on? If you own one of DeWalt's 20V battery hedge trimmers, you receive some advantages by switching to a 60V battery machine. Using a 60-volt battery allows you to run the power tool for longer without causing overheating, because it reduces the amount of current the tool needs to operate. The 60V battery will run longer before needing a recharge, giving you more time to trim the hedges than you'd have with a 20-volt battery. People who want high-end performance for difficult hedge trimming jobs will receive faster, easier results from the 60V tool compared to a 20V tool. The newer models also have a wider cut capacity and higher strokes per minute, offering 4,500 SPM (versus the 20V trimmer's 2,800 SPM) to get your hedges looking their best in less time.
If you currently own one of DeWalt's hedge trimmers that doesn't have an extension pole, you might want to consider purchasing one of the new models when they become available. Having the extension pole allows you to reach taller sections of the plant without needing to risk injury by climbing a ladder. You'll keep both feet on the ground, which makes it safer to use the hedge trimmer. You do have to be careful when the pole is extended that you aren't hitting overhead obstacles with the blades. Additionally, it can be difficult to control the trimmer at the end of a fully extended pole because of the odd weight distribution.
