Create Extra Towel Storage Space With A Simple Tension Rod Hack
Towels can pile up quickly. Some people store bath towels under the sink, but the problem is the pipes. They just get in the way of you making good use of the space. And forget putting in shelves down there: Who wants to cut said shelves to fit around the pipes? It's during times like these that you need to think a little outside the box, or the cupboard door as the case may be, and use a more unconventional storage solution, like tension rods. Install them correctly, and you'll have plenty of shelves to put both rolled and folded towels below your sink (or any other place that'll fit a couple of tension rods). And best of all, there's no need to alter the rods. Unlike the shelves, you can put the tension rods up around the pipes — no cutting required.
For this bathroom storage hack, you'll need at least two tension rods — unless you have heavier towels, then you'll need at least three rods to create one shelf. On a related note, the heavier the towels you want to store on your makeshift shelf are, the sturdier the rods should be. Something like the Sorcristy Small Spring Tension Rods would work because they are both short and thick. This makes them the ideal size to fit in small spaces, like the area below your sink, and the ideal width to keep everything from buckling under the weight of the towels.
Setting the rod shelves up under the sink
To ensure that you have maximum storage space in your hidden bathroom storage spot, place at least one tension rod behind the pipes of your bathroom sink. If there's room for two rods, and you have heavy towels, place a second rod directly in front of the first rod. If there's no room for this, then place one or two tension rods in front of the pipes, depending on how much weight you need the tension rods shelf to hold. Make sure that all of the rods are placed at the same height. If you're planning on storing smaller hand towels or washcloths on your tension rod shelves, reduce the amount of space between the rods so the smaller items don't fall through the cracks, so to speak.
If you have more towels than you do shelf space, then make a second or third shelf below the first one. You'll need two or three more tension rods for each shelf. If you're concerned about the height clearance between shelves, roll your towels instead of folding them. Then, you should have space for all the towels in the cupboard under the sink because rolling the towels up makes them more compact: It's an easy way to organize your bathroom using the space you already have.
