Goodbye, Ugly Trash Can Eyesores: The Easy Trick That Keeps Them Hidden In Style

A beautifully decorated kitchen is easily ruined by the presence of an unsightly trash can. In addition to filling the space with stinky smells, trash cans are also the ultimate eyesore. You can attempt to remedy this issue by using trash cans with more visually appealing designs. However, wouldn't it be better to conceal the bin completely? Thankfully, there's a hack you can use to accomplish this easily. Simply slide your trash can under a bottom shelf within a pantry and use a curtain rod to secure a half curtain over it. You should be able to fit the curtain rod between the two panels on either side of the shelf. When you're done, you'll be left with a trash can that is stored completely out of sight but still accessible. The brilliant hack will make your kitchen more aesthetic overall.

You can see an example of the final result of this hack in a TikTok video posted by user @cheloscorner. It's the perfect trick to easily hide your trash can so that it's no longer an eyesore. Obviously, it will only work in spaces with pantries that have enough room under the bottom shelf to store a medium to small-sized trash can. This is most often going to be your kitchen pantry, but some homes do also have storage closets in other rooms or hallways with similar designs. It's also important to keep in mind that large trash cans likely will not fit within the space at all. If you are a huge fan of this hack, consider replacing your large kitchen trash can with a smaller bin that fits under a shelf.

Hide your trash can behind a curtain

All you need for this hack is a tension-style curtain rod that fits between your bottom pantry shelf and a half curtain of the proper length. It's a good idea to measure the length of the underside of your pantry's bottom shelf to determine how long your curtain rod needs to be. You can do the same with the height of the space beneath the bottom shelf so that you can easily select a half curtain that is not too long or too short.

The length of the Ivilon Tension Curtain Rod starts at 16 inches and expands to 24 inches, so you may want to consider it as an option, as it may be small enough to fit in the tight space. As for the half curtain, take the design and color into consideration along with the length. It's a good idea to match the curtain to the color of the pantry so it is less noticeable.

However, if you prefer to use the curtain to decorate, you can opt for a fun pattern or bold color. The choice is yours. The Chyhomenyc Short Black Out Curtains are a good choice with a variety of color options. You might be more interested in the Renaiss Floral Kitchen Curtains as an alternative if you want to use a more decorative option. Keep in mind that you can also modify an existing curtain to lower the cost of this hack even more. To do this, simply cut the curtains down to size and create clean, folded ends and sides using hem tape and an iron. It's even possible to turn any appropriately sized piece of fabric into a curtain using this tape method if you hang it with curtain rod clip rings.
