Turn Dollar Tree Hand Soap Into Festive Valentine's Decor With This Clever Hack
Holiday decor can get expensive, especially if you want to deck out your home for everything from Thanksgiving to Saint Patrick's Day. These minor holidays don't always provide much by way of decor selection in stores, either — when compared to the absolute takeover of Christmas, finding themed decor for other times of the year can feel like a struggle, especially if you're trying to save.
Thankfully, there are plenty of items you can snag from the Dollar Tree for festive holiday decor on a budget. It doesn't take much to embrace the season, and in many cases, items don't even have to be marketed as decorations for the specific holiday you have in mind. With some creativity, a couple of bucks, and a bit of craftiness, you can use Dollar Tree DIYs to decorate on a budget this Valentine's Day. Case in point: this cute soap hack that only requires two inexpensive items to pull off.
Essentially, all you're doing is suspending some cute, heart-shaped glitter in liquid hand soap. While this hack might sound a bit too simple to yield anything but lackluster results, the final product is an adorable touch of Valentine's flair that transforms a simple item you use multiple times a day into a nod to the season. To get started, you'll only need to pick up two things, both of which should be available at your local Dollar Tree: a Colgate Softsoap liquid hand soap pump (instantly recognizable from the iconic fish on the label) and some Valentine's Day heart confetti. If you really want to commit, you can also use a heat gun to make taking off the label on the soap easier, but if you're armed with our tips to remove sticker residue on any surface, this certainly isn't a necessity.
How to make your own Valentine's confetti soap
Once you've picked up your supplies, the most difficult part is already over. Take off the label from the soap as a first step. You can do this by using a heat source like a hair dryer or heat gun to loosen the adhesive, but a simple peel and wash to remove any residue also works. Next, remove the pump and place it to the side. Sprinkle in some confetti, then use the end of the pump or another small object, like a pen or butter knife, to evenly disperse it in the soap. If you want to avoid making a mess, you can also use a small funnel to more easily get the confetti through the small opening. Close up your soap bottle, and you're ready to display and use your cute decoration.
There are also plenty of ways to customize this hack. Tint your soap pink or red with a tiny touch of food coloring for even more color, or swap out the confetti for a different shape or color if you're not a fan of the whole heart look. Just make sure the confetti you pick isn't water-soluble or prone to bleeding — the last thing you want is a clump of mush in the bottom of your dispenser.
Once you're done adding the confetti to the soap, you can also do a bit more to zhuzh up the bottle if you see fit. A little red or pink ribbon tied around the neck of the bottle would be a cute and on-theme accent, and something as simple as writing a little love note on the bottle in paint or a pen can make it more personal.
