Christina Haack Makes This Bathroom Shine With A Clean, Coastal Design

There are many reasons why you'd want to get Christina Haack's look in your home, especially if you're drawn to the modern coastal aesthetic. The "Christina on the Coast" star is known for bringing function to sleek spaces, often flipping homes into a modern, beachy upgrade. And when it comes to her bathroom redesigns, she's not afraid to make bold decisions. Such is the case in an episode of her show where she transforms her friend's unconventional bathroom into the clean coastal bathroom of her dreams.

In Season 4, Episode 2 of "Christina on the Coast," Haack welcomes her friend, Whitney, to the neighborhood, and agrees to help her with redesigning her primary bathroom, which Whitney explains is just not functional. "There's no doors," she explains. It's a problem for many reasons, one being the obvious issue of privacy, but it's also a nuisance if one person is using the shower and the other is sleeping.

When you step into the doorless bathroom, you meet a shower that her husband, Jeff, explains is his "dorm room shower," which is especially slippery, according to the couple. Moving along to the sink area, the bathroom is sectioned off by a random wall, casting a shadow near the vanity. "It's super dark over here," Whitney explains. Clearly, Haack was going to have to make major changes to the bathroom's layout, honoring Whitney's airy, bohemian decor style, while still complementing Jeff's bold, busy aesthetic. Although the task seems daunting, the transformation is stunning, and Haack not only maximized the space of the bathroom, but was able to successfully marry the two vastly different interior decor styles together cohesively, and totally transform it with a wet room, which involves fitting a tub into the shower.

Whitney and Jeff's bathroom transformation

In terms of the logistics of the redesign, the challenge became more than just transforming this bathroom from its dark and sterile aesthetic to a beachy, bright, and airy space. It also lied in getting the bathroom to harmonize with Whitney's preference for airy neutrals and Jeff's affinity for texture and bright colors. Haack was able to bring pops of color into the bathroom, featuring gold-plated sconces with warm orange lighting. Haack was also able to add a double vanity, a wet room, and incorporate both style preferences. The result? A gorgeous and spacious bathroom that looks straight out of a beachy resort.

The renovated bathroom features gorgeous, pink rose quartz material for the countertops, which are paired with smooth, modern slab cabinets that contrast beautifully. Keeping in mind the slippery tile material in the original bathroom, they decided on a matte finish as their tile choice. The couple chose textured tiles for the backsplash, which Jeff explains is "subtle but loud," and makes a statement. Due to budget constraints, they made a last-minute decision on the tiles for their walls, opting for a smooth stucco over a textured tile, which ultimately gave the bathroom an elegant finish. "It's totally waterproof," explains Haack, "and it'll give the walls a natural stone look." As for the shower, Haack totally transforms the "college dorm shower" into a stunning wet room, which gives the space a luxurious hotel feel. The toilet area was still separated, but Haack incorporated Jeff's preference for wallpaper with a black and white pattern that matches his bold aesthetic.
