How To Get In On 2026's Biggest Rug Trend The Affordable Way
Rugs are a simple way to modify the vibe of a room, giving it a fresh start. And if you stay up to date on the latest carpet floor trends, you can ensure that your interiors will look stylish and consciously curated. According to Katy Repetto, creative director at Momeni Rugs, textured, woven rugs are particularly hot in 2026. "There has always been a demand for woven rugs with various types of texture," she tells House Digest exclusively, "and I think we will only see an increase in rugs that can offer a good mix of comfort as well as high performance durability."
She also forecasts that "we will start to see an increase in pattern and color in our homes." So, expect to say goodbye to boring carpets, with this bold trend taking over in 2026. Disclosing the reason why you should look for more colorful, textured rugs, Repetto divulges: "The home trends have leaned very neutral for some time now, and while that minimal light and earthy palette is beautiful and still very desirable, adding a textile with some pop of pattern is a great way to incorporate this trend on a budget."
Affordable ways to incorporate trendy rug designs in your home
While incorporating trendy rug designs in your home can make your interiors shine, your pockets won't like the decision much if you plan on investing in high-end pieces. But instead of cutting corners or giving up your dream of maintaining a fashionable house, Katy Repetto suggests following trends that fit your set budget. "Cutting-edge design is offered in every price point due to quality innovation and the demands of the mass market," she explains to House Digest. "It's important to work within your budget to find the trend that works best for you." For instance: "If you're looking for a quality traditional vintage rug to create an heirloom vibe to your space, but a hand-knotted rug is out of the budget, then consider [ones with] ... vintage rug images that are heat transferred on a high quality flat-weave."
Repetto also notes that you don't always have to choose statement pieces that take up a lot of room. "Another tip is to invest in a hand-knotted rug in a smaller size that you can enjoy in unexpected areas of the home, such as a half bathroom, laundry room, entryway, etc.," she says. "That way you can enjoy a great investment piece in a more affordable way." So, if you love a particular style, don't automatically choose the largest piece you can find. See if you can find smaller versions that'll fit handsomely with the design of your guest bathroom or home office.
Budget-friendly materials you should look for when buying a trendy rug
Speaking in her exclusive interview with House Digest, Katy Repetto gives us some of her top picks for the best budget-friendly rug materials. "There are a lot of great durable options that use blended yarns, such as wool and nylon," she says. Highlighting the reasons why you should invest in them, adds: "These rugs are durable and high quality, but the price point is not as steep as a hand-knotted rug. They are a fantastic alternative if you're looking for a quality rug at a mid-price point." So, always check these materials out first when looking for the least expensive rugs at IKEA or other retail stores. You might want to check a few thrift shops and online sites, too. Alternatively, Repetto adds, "polyester is another great option for durability and easy to maintain."
Besides hunting down affordable materials, Repetto has a few other tips up her sleeve. "Look for ways to add more pattern in the smaller doses that are easy to swap around," she tells us, "whether it's a whimsical doormat, a smaller size rug for a stair landing or front of the kitchen sink ... to add character and warmth to create a home that feels nostalgic and personalized." That being said, Repetto also suggests opting for pieces that are rich in both pattern and color. "Adding a textile with some pop of pattern is a great way to incorporate this trend on a budget," she explains.
