With a bit of DIY magic, you can turn an old piece of vintage jewelry into a statement frame you can hang on a wall or rest on a shelf. It's a great way to repurpose thrifted jewelry in your home instead of letting it catch dust in a drawer. 

The idea for this DIY is to use a simple Dollar Tree frame, pop out the glass, and replace it with a DIY "pillow" made of fabric and burlap. Then, you can attach your brooch to that cushioned frame insert. It's like framing your piece of jewelry and displaying it like its very own piece of art. And who doesn't love that?

To do this, you just need a few supplies. First, grab a frame from Dollar Tree for a few dollars. Here, you can choose whichever size and model based on the look of your piece of jewelry and your personal taste. Dollar Tree has a special moments 4x6 frame with curved and retro edges that's perfect for this DIY, but feel free to experiment with other ones too. And don't worry about the color, you'll be able to customize the frame even more by using paint to cover it. And finally, you'll need supplies to create the cushioned surface. For this, you can repurpose fabric scraps or use cotton or cushion filling, like Cosnight's polyester fiber stuffing. Finally, you'll need some burlap and scissors to cut a piece to the perfect size.

To assemble this DIY, start by removing the glass panel and backing from the frame. You won't need the glass part, but do keep the backing; it will be important for this DIY. If you've chosen to paint the frame, do that step first and let it dry before proceeding to the next steps.

Now, time to make the pillow. Fold the fabric scraps into a rectangle slightly smaller than the frame, and lay it on the backing piece. If you're using cushion filling or cotton instead of fabric, spread it evenly across the packing. You can use a small amount of hot glue here to keep it in place, if needed. Then, cut a piece of burlap that's an inch or so larger than the frame on all sides. Lay it on top of the fabric of filling and place the frame over it. The extra burlap should get pinched by the frame and fold over onto the back, which secures the filling tightly in place and creates a soft pillow-like effect. Then, cut the extra burlap on the back of the frame to make sure it's hidden.

Now, attach your brooch to the burlap at the center of the pillow inside the frame. You can use this same method for hooked items, like earrings. Another option is to tie a statement pendant to a piece of thread and sew it onto the burlap. If you'd like to do this hack with costume jewelry, you can use hot glue and stick pieces directly onto the burlap, too. Of course, it's best to avoid using glue on any valuable and high-end items, but it can be fun with cheap finds.
