Spring blooms are on the horizon and warmer days are ahead, so it's the perfect time for you to bring some of that floral cheer inside your home. There are so many creative DIYs using items from the Dollar Tree, so instead of buying generic shelving this season, consider putting a fun spring twist on your functional decor. In the craft section at your local Dollar Tree, find a few large, flat wooden boards in a flower shape as user @kaeleywynter shows us on TikTok. Cut a piece of wood to make your shelf, attach it to the flower with wood glue, prime and paint the pieces, add 1 inch brackets going across, and secure it to your wall to decorate your home with flowers in an unexpected way.
This project is fun because it lets you tailor the look to your preferences. You could paint the wood in pastels to really hammer in the spring theme, or keep them neutral to complement your room's design. It's also a simple enough DIY for beginners, but it makes a cute statement.
For this DIY, you'll need two or three of the Crafter's Square Large Wood Shapes, some wood that you can cut to serve as your shelf, and wood glue. You might also be able to use some scrap wood to create your wall art if it's thick enough. To secure your shelf to the wall, use 1 inch brackets like these Alise Floating Shelf Brackets. You'll also need some paper, a level, and a screwdriver.
Steps to take when creating your adorable flower shelves
Measure the length across the longest part of the wood flower in the middle. Trace a half moon shape with that diameter on your wood and cut your shelf piece. It's helpful to use 1 inch hardwood if you have any heavy items so it stays strong and resists warping. Prime, paint, and dry your shelf pieces, brackets, and the wood flowers in the colors of your choice. Take your wood glue and apply it to the inside flat edge of the hardwood piece. Press it down firmly in place on the flower and hold.
Next, secure your brackets, three across each shelf, leaving one hole open for mounting to the wall. Put them on upside down if the shelves are high on your wall so they can't be seen from below. If the shelves are lower on the wall, put the brackets underneath the shelf. Add a top coat like Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover Spray Paint to ensure that your paint lasts. Once everything is prepped, trace the flower shape over some paper to use as a guide in positioning your shelves. Use your level when adding the actual shelf to the wall, then fasten the final screw into the wall to secure it through the brackets.
Finally, add your items like plants, pictures, and other knickknacks. These cute floral shelves can brighten up any room. Multiple shelves lined up straight on the wall makes a simple statement, but you could also go for a sporadically placed arrangement to stick with the quirky theme.
