While you may lavish love and care on that large monstera plant, don't despair if an old leaf falls off or you accidentally break one while you're moving the plant or dusting the leaves. You can immortalize this lovely old leaf into a truly stunning piece of shimmery wall decor by using it as a stencil, just like TikTok creator @madsb did. This is just the thing when you're looking for ways to decorate your walls without using framed art.
For this eye-catching project, all you need is a large piece of cardboard, some silver paint or aluminum foil, and a roll of disco-ball tiles like these PP OPOUNT self-adhesive mirror tiles. This is definitely the type of wall art to create if you love that gorgeous shimmer, but you could easily customize it to suit a different style of decor. For instance, those adhesive mirror tiles are also available in gold, pink, red, blue, and yellow. Of course, you'll want to paint the cardboard base to match rather than using plain foil to cover it, although you can get Hygloss metallic foil paper in a select range of shades such as red, orange, green, blue, gold, and pink. This gives you plenty of options for customizing your new shimmery wall decor.
How to craft your monstera leaf wall art
Using your old monstera leaf as the stencil, trace the shape onto a piece of cardboard. Don't forget to trace any monstera fenestrations (holes) in the leaf, as well. Grab your craft scissors and cut out the shape so that it looks exactly like the leaf you used as the template. Once you have your cardboard shape, either take it outside and spray paint it all over in your chosen color or use aluminum foil or foil paper to cover the piece entirely.
After this is done, you now have the task of applying the tiny disco tiles to the shape. If you've chosen the ones that come in a roll, it's just a case of cutting a strip, peeling off the backing, and sticking it in place. You might have to trim off any excess as you go. You'll probably find that this will be the most time-consuming part of the project, especially if you're going to use the tiles to cover the edges of the cardboard shape as well. You may find that you have to use hot glue to keep those in place. The back of your new wall art won't look pretty, but because it's going to be against the wall, this might not worry you. If it does, just grab a large piece of felt, cut it to size using the leaf as a stencil once again, and then use hot glue to stick it over the back for a much neater finish. Finally, use a couple of Command picture hanging strips to attach your masterpiece to the wall.
