Keep Sheets Organized With A Folding Hack That Improves Your Linen Closet Storage

Decluttering and reorganizing your linen closet can feel like an overwhelming task, but a few simple hacks can help make it a breeze. The best way to organize your linen closet is to start by downsizing. Take everything out, inspect it, and choose what to keep or toss. Once you're left with only your very best pieces, it's time to fold and put them back neatly.

While there are multiple ways to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result that also makes it easy to find anything you're looking for, Martha Stewart has one of our favorite solutions. Rather than keeping sheets and pillowcases in separate piles or baskets, store all of the pieces of any given set together, using one of the pillowcases as a slip cover. Not only is this quick to execute, but it doesn't require any additional items or money spent, making it a truly great hack.

Start by folding the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and one pillowcase from the set into a neat stack with equal dimensions. Now, slide it inside the second pillowcase at a perpendicular angle, aligning the outer edge of the stack with the pillowcase's opening. This will leave empty space along the bottom and end of the pillowcase, so you'll want to fold the excess material — first horizontally, then vertically — to match the size and shape of the sheets inside. This neat little package is now ready to be placed back inside your linen closet.

Give your linen closet a clean boutique look

This simple sheet hack takes just a few seconds, but it can go a long way in making your linen closet more organized. For optimal results, start by folding your fitted sheet like a pro. Lay the sheet on your bed or any flat surface and insert your hands into the two bottom corners, lift the sheet up, and tuck the corners you're holding inside the corners at the opposite end. Shake it out to make sure it's properly inserted without any bunches or folds, then place the sheet back down on the flat surface. Fold it into thirds horizontally, then fold vertically as many times as needed to reach your desired size.

Use the shape of your folded fitted sheet as a sizing guide to fold your flat sheet and pillowcase to the same dimensions (or as close as possible!) to create a uniform stack which will easily fit into your second pillowcase. Once finished, arrange your sheet sets side by side or on top of one another on a shelf with the openings facing forward to achieve a boutique look. Just remember to aim for the same widths throughout for a symmetrically-pleasing result.

Alternatively, if you'd rather not see the sheets inside, simply place your bundle into the pillowcase at a parallel angle, push it all the way down to the end, and fold the excess material over top.
