If you love to get crafty, you probably already know of a few genius ways to repurpose a tablecloth or use it as part of a house decor project. This simple kitchen staple can do a lot, from DIYing your own kitschy wall art to sewing it onto a throw blanket for a comfy living room aesthetic. A scroll through social media can also bring about more unconventional ideas for trending DIY home projects with a tablecloth, even for rooms that you wouldn't expect to see them in. In fact, one home and lifestyle creator demonstrates how to use a tablecloth or table runner as elegant and unique above-the-bed decor that's giving major "Bridgerton" vibes.
Over on Instagram, creator @lifeatlawnwood has an unorthodox idea to bring flair above their bed frame. Using mesh tablecloth runners and a cord, they intertwine the pieces over the bed, creating an unexpected yet elegant focal point. Hanging on either side are large braided cords with a light tying, creating a functional bedside light. Between the textures and design, its silhouette looks like decor from the English Regency era. For this project, you'll need a few items, most of which you can purchase on Amazon, including a couple of mesh tablecloths, such as the Horaldaily Beige Gold Bow Gauze Tablecloth, ceiling hooks along the lines of Taili Adhesive Ceiling Hooks, a large dowel, and two braided cords.
How to create this tablecloth DIY and display it above your bed
To begin this DIY, you'll install two ceiling hooks above your bed so that they're aligned with the distance of your bedframe. This is where you'll hang the large dowel for the tablecloth or runner. In the Reel, the creator hangs another two ceiling hooks spread several inches away from the wall at an angle from the first two, where they hang the braided cords. For this step, you can play with the positioning of your hooks, but ensure they allow for your cords to drape naturally. Next, take your tablecloths or runners and run them through the dowel, weaving the different cloths into each other loosely so they flow together seamlessly.
The creator uses two sheer table runners in red and cream shades, but the colors and textures really depend on what already exists in your bedroom. Soft, sophisticated color schemes were widely used during this era, so consider creams, blush pinks, powder blues, and muted neutrals for your tablecloths. This is an especially gorgeous combination when contrasted with moody bedsheets or a dramatic vintage bedframe, as it highlights the focal area. For a more dramatic look, you can go the route the creator did with a rich sienna and cream. Ruby reds and emerald greens, such as the Horbaunal Dark Green Chiffon Table Runner, contrast with light neutrals, and also work well here.
As far as texture goes, sheer, lightweight fabrics can help you emulate a "Bridgerton"-inspired look, very similar to this creator. When you imagine walking into a royal's bedroom, you may see chiffon, voile, or marquisette fabrics. These fabrics, often used in Regency interiors, flow beautifully and can help you achieve an essence of Georgian luxury. In that case, layer even longer, flowing tablecloths or runners and fluff them out to get that opulent, dramatic effect.
