Turn Empty Tin Cans Into Cutesy Spring-Inspired Countertop Decor
As the flowers start to poke out of the earth and the trees come back to life, it's only natural that we want to breathe energy back into our dwellings too. After a long winter, we're ready to bring some color and energy into our decor. Why not celebrate the season with a simple craft? Refresh your home for spring with an adorable DIY you can complete in less than a day. Using simple materials, you can craft a super cute bunny-shaped container for your countertop.
For this project, you'll need foam bunny ears, foam bunny feet, an empty tin can, cotton balls, pink pompoms, white paint, googly eyes, and a hot glue gun. You should be able to find all your supplies locally or online. However, if they're not available at your local craft store, you might need to create custom foam bunny ears or feet. For that, you'll need foam paper (like OISAKLD Color Foam), scissors, and craft glue.
If you couldn't find pre-made foam bunny ears and feet, no need to worry! These are super simple to DIY. For the ears, simply cut out two bunny ear-shaped pieces of white foam and two slightly smaller ear-shaped pieces of pink foam. Glue together and allow to dry. To create the feet, cut out two white ovals. Next, cut out two smaller pink ovals and three tiny pink circles. Glue the pink oval towards the bottom of the bigger white oval and the three circles at the top to form little bunny toes. Repeat for the second foot.
How to DIY bunny-inspired spring decor containers
Start by cleaning out your tin can. Remove the wrapping and lingering adhesive. Reach for Goo Gone or fractionated coconut oil if the sticky residue isn't budging easily. Once the can is clean, paint the entire exterior white. You may need to add on a few layers. As that dries, glue together two cotton balls side by side with a small pink pompom directly above them in the center. This should form a little bunny mouth. Once the paint dries, use the hot glue gun to attach the ears at the top of the can towards the back rim and the feet at the bottom of the can towards the front. Next, glue on the mouth and googly eyes. Feel free to draw on some whiskers if you want, too. And voilà — an adorable piece of DIY custom spring decor.
There are an array of ways to use this craft around the house. Fill it with artificial flowers and place it on your countertop to add personality to your spring decor. Use it to hold pens on your desk for a boost of whimsical spring energy at your workspace. Create a beautiful spring table setting, complete with a bowl of your favorite Easter candies, a vase of spring flowers, and candles. If you're hosting a spring get-together, you can craft a bunny for each guest and create an adorable party favor. Fill it with faux grass, candy, a couple artificial flowers, a fun spring pen, and whatever else you can fit in the can. You can find so many different uses for this cute, simple DIY!
