Turn Dollar Tree Items Into A Hanging Light That Looks So Chic

If you have some photos that deserve their time in the spotlight, then perhaps it's time to add some new lighting, and hanging art gallery-style lights might be exactly what you need. You can create luxury with accent lighting in many forms, and you can even craft your own using pieces you can find at your local Dollar Tree. Consider crafting a classy hanging light that can bring ambience and clarity to your space — without having to spend a fortune.

This adorable hanging light created by TikTok crafter @ryanmirnawhite bridges concepts like the classic rustic farmhouse aesthetic with the beauty of lantern light. You could even pair your hanging lights with a lantern DIY project down the line. It can work as a display light to show off photos or artwork, as well as guiding light, somewhere like a winding hallway. It adds the charm of an old-timey watch post while bringing more functional lighting into your space.

Assembling a hanging light

For this craft, you'll need a sawtooth hanger with screws, some hot glue, a drill, and a trip to Dollar Tree. There, you will also need a wood block, a metal plant hanger, a glass vase, a cob push light, and some jute cord. Choosing a vase with an indentation can better secure your design when it is hung.

At home, you're going to attach the sawtooth hanger to the wooden block — it should look like the back of a picture frame. To the front of the woodblock, you're going to attach the metal plant hanger. This fixture will hang, like a picture frame would, supporting your light.

Crafting the actual light will take some patience. First glue a double strand of jute cord down to the top of the vase. Bring the double cord down and tie it tight around the indentation, then add hot glue to secure it into place. Wrap the excess cords up from the knot in continuous layers and secure it into place with hot glue as you go. Continue wrapping until you reach the center. Knot the double cord you wrapped the vase with the double cord you glued at the top. When the cord is secure in place, braid a chain from the top out. Adhere the cob light to the interior top of the vase. Finally, wrap and tie the chain to the plant hanger. Your light is ready to display!
