Why There's Simply No Need For Electric Weed Pullers

In today's high-tech world, there are plenty of so-called labor-saving devices that you can easily spend your money on. This includes appliances for your home as well as your garden. But do you ever wonder whether some of these might actually be a waste of money and not worth the hype? One such gardening product that's supposedly designed to make ridding your garden of weeds easier is the electric weed puller. While it might sound like a labor-saving device, in reality, it's one of those gadgets that you simply don't need and could be considered a total waste of your hard-earned cash. It won't save you any time and is not actually very effective either, as it might not get all the roots out and doesn't always hold onto the weeds it does pull out.

Electric weed pullers usually have a long, adjustable shaft with a small head on the end with sharp prongs. They're battery-operated, and when powered up, the head rotates as the prongs or tines dig into the ground and dislodge the weed. The prongs grab the weed as you lift up the tool, and then you push a button to dispense the weed into a waste bucket or your wheelbarrow. Considering these tools cost close to $100 or more, you really need to think twice before buying one of these single-use devices. There are quite a number of great strategies for removing weeds, and using an electric weed puller is not one of them.

While these electric weed pullers enable you to pull weeds without having to bend over, they're certainly not going to save you any time. Depending on how many weeds you have, you're probably going to be standing in the same spot for quite a while to get those weeds out of the ground. You may also find that the head doesn't always pick up the weeds, so you'll have to bend over and do that manually anyway. There's no doubt that if you're adept at hand weeding, you're going to be able to do the job much quicker and more cleanly if you do it manually, especially if you know the best time to pull weeds without the hassle.

The electric weed puller also tends to churn up the ground, which likely leaves a bit of weed material behind and may not even get out all of the roots. Additionally, if you use it on your lawn, it's likely to leave some large holes. Plus, the battery may not last all that long, so you'll have to wait for it to recharge before you can finish the job.

If you have a fair bit of regular weeding and you don't like kneeling on the ground or sitting on a low stool for the task, you're much better off with a long-handled manual weed puller, like the Fiskars 3-Claw Weeder, which you can buy for just under $35. It looks far sturdier and much more effective at pulling out those weeds, plus there are other top tools for removing pesky weeds that are inexpensive and multi-purpose.
