Turn Empty Soda Cans Into Floral Decor That'll Last All Year Long

Floral decor can be popular because it's a versatile addition, no matter the season. But everyone knows that sometimes the appeal of fresh flowers is fleeting, mainly because their life span isn't forever. In order to keep our favorite blooms around, it's often ideal to recreate them using recycled materials such as paper, tissue, or even metal soda cans.

In this TikTok video tutorial by @sandauraaa, you'll find a simple DIY to flood your space with a colorful lily flower made out of a soda can and held together with glue and wire. The main part of this decor piece is, of course, a soda can of your choosing. The remaining materials you'll need are fairly easy to find, if you don't have them already. You'll need to have a box cutter to cut your soda can wide open. You'll also need something with a straight angle to actually iron out the can like a metal scraper, as well as a permanent marker, a glue gun, and floral wire stems to act as the stalk and filaments.

How to put your soda-can lily together

Once you've gathered all the materials, it's time to start by emptying the can's contents, either into a cup or simply downing the drink. Then, using a box cutter, puncture the emptied can on the side from the top and cut straight down to open it up. Afterwards, unroll it and use your metal scraper to flatten it out. You'll then draw out lily flower petals onto the sheet of metal with a marker, and then cut them out. Also, cut out a small circular piece for the base of the petals. Round the petals out at the top slightly, and hot glue them onto the circular base in a layered pattern so it looks like a lily. Then, hot glue your floral wire stems on the bottom and top of the circular base for the flower stalk and filaments. Finally, add small beads of hot glue to the tips of the wire filaments to get the full look.

Some of these materials can be swapped out for others. A metal scraper is an item that may not be found in most people's homes, so you can use something similar with a strong edge, like a wide ruler or even a spatula. The floral wire stems can also be replaced with unbent paper clips. If the look of the soda can complete with branding isn't your thing, you might consider painting over the flower petals with acrylic paint, or even gluing colorful tissue paper to give it that soft, layered floral look. Glue tiny beads in the center to make the pistil look more realistic. After it's complete, you'll see how this floral-inspired DIY is one you'll definitely want for your house.
