Not Ryobi, Not Echo: This Is Consumer Reports' Top Rated Gas Power Washer

Rather than dealing with the downsides to electric pressure washers, you may have decided to purchase a gas-powered model, which delivers more power for cleaning and usually offers higher-quality parts than battery-powered or corded electric machines.

If you want help finding the right gas-powered power washer, you may want to rely on the product testing experts at Consumer Reports, who recently published a list of the best pressure washers for 2026. Although Ryobi and Echo are both well-known for manufacturing residential machines that run on gasoline (including power washers), Consumer Reports' top gas power washer is the Westinghouse WPX3400, which is available at Amazon for $349. Westinghouse actually has three of the top four gas pressure washers on the Consumer Reports list. The WPX3400 is the most powerful of the three Westinghouse gasoline machines, sitting near the top of the list in terms of PSI offered.

Among the things you need to know to pressure wash your own home is that you're selecting a model that has enough power to do the job. The Westinghouse WPX3400 received high marks from Consumer Reports for its ability to deliver high levels of water pressure with a strong flow of water. This machine has maximum settings of 3,400 PSI and 2.6 gallons per minute (GPM). It has enough water pressure to manage washing residential cars, wood and composite decking, siding, and concrete. The WPX3400 offers a wide spray angle, which helps to prevent damage, but it remains effective at removing stains, according to Consumer Reports' testing experts.

The Consumer Reports testing lab gave the Westinghouse gas power washer top marks in a few different categories. It receives a perfect score for its cleaning capabilities because it works on multiple different surfaces, successfully removing a variety of stains. The Westinghouse WPX3400 has a perfect score for its flow rate, too, meaning it outperforms peers for water pressure and flow. Consumer Reports also gives the Westinghouse model a perfect score for being easy to operate while offering quick-change nozzles.

Compared to the other 14 gas-powered power washers on the testing list, the Consumer Reports testers said the Westinghouse WPX3400 offers a strong combination of cleaning quality, water pressure, and unit price. Westinghouse offers residential users a 3-year limited warranty on this pressure washer. It includes a 0.9-gallon gas tank with a 212cc gas engine and a 0.5-gallon soap dispenser tank.

Separately from its testing results, Consumer Reports surveyed its members who owned the Westinghouse WPX3400. Its high brand reliability and owner satisfaction scores trailed only a Stihl machine on the list of gas-powered pressure washers. More than 90% of Amazon customer reviewers gave the Westinghouse WPX3400 four or five stars.

Consumer Reports' testers gave the Westinghouse WPX3400 below-average scores for noise generation. The testers recorded significant noise both near the machine during operation and when standing at the end of the hose while working. However, noise was a common issue for all of the gas-powered power washers on the Consumer Reports list, as none of them received an average or greater score. The testers recommend using hearing protection when using all gas-powered models.

If you have significant concerns over noise, corded electric or battery-powered pressure washers generate far less noise during operation. Additionally, machines that run on electricity are easier to maintain. If you choose a gas-powered model like the Westinghouse WPX3400, storing the pressure washer properly after you're done using it is essential to ensure it's ready to run the next time you need it. Add a fuel stabilizer if it will be in storage more than 30 days, for example.

The Westinghouse WPX3400 has a 25-foot hose length, which the Consumer Reports testers said was shorter than comparable models. Residential users will typically want a hose length of 20 to 50 feet for convenient use.
