Turn A Plain Cube Shelf Into A Statement Furniture Piece

Cube shelves are one of the more popular home furnishings due to their versatility. They can keep you organized in just about every area of your home. Whether you are reorganizing your closet, upgrading a bay window or entryway, or looking to add more storage to your bedroom, cube organizers can be used in innovative ways all around the house. They can also be styled in a way that isn't distracting. Often cube shelves utilize simple, brightly colored bins. This can be a great tactic for hiding clutter away, but it isn't always seamless. Crafting wooden bins to match the shelf can add an element of class back into your storage.

When it comes to designing your space, you may occasionally need shelf coverage. Not every storage space looks best with your items on display. Converting a cube storage organizer into a chic cabinet or adding closed drawers can prevent cluttered chaos. Building your own drawers is a sure way to make sure they'll support your aesthetic.

Upgrading your cube shelf drawers

Each drawer will use up a 6-foot plank of wood. For this DIY, you'll also need paint, sand paper, polyurethane finish, a circular saw, a nail gun, and some wood glue. Prime, paint, sand, and seal your cube shelf; this allows you to match your drawers to your shelf with a uniform look.

This cube shelf was starting to feel like an eye sore with the rest of the office shaping up so beautifully. I decided to give it a makeover using some leftover @clarepaint from my office closet renovation. What was once a boring basic cube shelf is now a cutie pink statement piece that I'm so proud of! 🤩✨ . Begin by measuring your cube and cutting wall and bottom pieces for your drawer. Use wood glue and a nail gun to assemble the box of your drawer. To the front of your drawer, cut and attach a trim for aesthetic purposes. To the bottom, you can attach two small planks for your drawer to balance on. Glue a piece of felt to each plank, giving the drawer the ability to slide without scraping the shelf. Finally, you'll paint the drawer boxes to match and add door knobs.

To take the DIY a step further, you could consider installing an actual drawer track and attach the drawers to the cube shelf, essentially crafting a dresser. On the other hand, if woodworking is outside your realm of possibilities, this Dollar Tree DIY storage cube upgrade takes a simpler route to improve your organizer.
