The shelf itself is an open mesh style that allows you to hang hooks underneath for more storage flexibility. In product pictures, MonsterRax even shows a bike hanging on the underside of the shelf as an example of how to get the most out of this rack. Plus, a product review shared that it "includes additional hooks to hang things."
