The Perfect Place To Store All Your Thrifted Baskets
We love a good thrifted basket. And if you're the type who can't resist picking up one (or two) every time you hit the secondhand store in your neighborhood, you might be starting to run out of storage space for your collection. While we all know there are many ways to use baskets in your home for stylish storage, you can only repurpose so many baskets before you have to find a place to keep the rest of them. If you'd like to avoid banishing all those amazing baskets to the closet or, even worse, the basement, then we've got a fun DIY solution for you: hang them on a curtain rod.
This basket organization hack that doubles as wall decor is so simple and easy that you can do it in an afternoon. It involves mounting a curtain rod or kitchen rail to any open wall space, placing S-hooks on the rod, and hanging the baskets by their handles on the hooks. You can use any sized rod and any number of S-hooks, so it's completely customizable. Even the color of the rod can be coordinated with the surrounding decor, so it fits seamlessly into your home's style. If you're worried about not having enough wall space, you can opt to mount the rod to the ceiling instead. To get started, pick the place you want to hang your baskets and gather your supplies. You'll need a curtain rod with two brackets, screws and a screw driver, and as many S-hooks as you have baskets to hang.
How to use a curtain rod to store thrifted baskets
It's easy to use a gorgeous gallery rail in your home to add functional and stylish design to your basket storage in just a few steps. When considering where to hang the baskets, make sure there is enough vertical space to accommodate the size of baskets you'll be hanging up, along with enough horizontal space to accommodate the size of the rod or rail. If wall space is limited, you can even hang two smaller rods in different locations. Alternatively, you can use a kitchen or gallery rail, depending on what size rod you need.
Begin by marking the space on the wall where you want to attach brackets to hang the curtain rod. If you're mounting it on the ceiling, simply measure and mark your spots there, also double checking that the brackets have hooks or enclosures that will hold the rod at this angle. Use a screw driver or drill to attach a bracket into the wall with screws at each marking. Then set the rod into the brackets.
Optionally, you can avoid installing brackets and use a tension rod for a less permanent and more renter-friendly choice. For this to work, you'll need to place the rod in an open space between two walls, like a doorway or between cabinets. Slide the tension rod into the desired area and push each end outward to expand it, creating as much tension as needed to secure it in place. Once the rod is in place, hang the S-hooks on the rod. Hang one basket on each S-hook by its handle and arrange them on the rod as desired.
