Don't Throw Out An Old Baking Sheet: Use It To Keep Your Shoe Rack Clean

Shoe racks help you keep your floors clutter-free. However, the rack itself can become dirty when grime from shoes transfers onto it. This is especially frustrating during the winter season or on rainy days when the bottom of your shoes may be coated in layers of snow or mud. Soiled shoes can drip through the rack onto your floor, leaving you with a huge mess to clean up. Thankfully, you can place an old baking sheet onto your shoe rack shelves to keep them clean. The sheet will hold any dirt or grime that falls from the bottom of your shoe.
This protects the rack from buildup that's difficult to scrub away. It's much easier to simply remove the trays to clean them once they become soiled. You can clean the trays under running water or simply wipe them off using a soapy rag or paper towel. This simple hack will help you protect your floors and the shoe rack. Those dirty winter boots will no longer be a pain to store inside the home. So, the next time you think about disposing of a baking sheet that has become rusty or warped, consider upcycling the old sheet using this hack instead.
Place your shoes on an old baking sheet for a clean shoe rack
Once you have a baking pan that is worn and ready to be upcycled into a functional piece, you can simply place it on your shoe rack. This hack works particularly well with racks that feature bars or wood panels with gaps between them. The tray will prevent shoe grime from dripping between the bars or panels and onto your floors. Obviously, an old baking sheet is not the most visually appealing home decor piece, so feel free to decorate yours so that it's not an eyesore.
You can coat it with spray paint, and then follow that up with a sealant like the Thompson's WaterSeal Multi-Surface Waterproofer. Although outdoor spray paint is typically waterproof, this product will provide extra protection regardless of what type of spray paint you purchase. To make clean up even easier, you may also want to line the tray with parchment paper or foil before placing your shoes on top. You can then simply toss the material in the trash can when it becomes soiled and replace it with a clean sheet. This is just one of the many ways to repurpose a baking sheet inside the home.
