Upcycle Plastic Spoons And An Old Mason Jar Into A Stunning Centerpiece

Table centerpieces can be expensive, fragile, and hard to find. Whether you're in the middle of planning a DIY wedding reception or you want to create a cute, refreshing centerpiece for your summertime parties, you can build your own sturdy table decor using just a few basic household items. Separately, you probably wouldn't think that a Mason jar and a handful of plastic spoons could look like much. But once you add some hot glue, spray paint, and faux flowers, you've got yourself a gorgeous centerpiece that was not only affordable, but also incredibly easy to make.

This Mason jar project is a great way to repurpose plastic silverware around the house. Plus, it's perfect for anyone looking to spice up their indoor or outdoor dining set. The best part about this craft is that you can easily personalize it to fit the season or your specific event, like a Christmas gathering or an autumn dinner party. All of the supplies are affordable, and chances are, you probably have most of them in your home already.

How to make a decorative vase out of spoons and a Mason jar

Once you see the final product, it's hard to believe this vase started out as a collection of basic items. Before beginning, make sure your Mason jar is cleaned and dried. You don't need a lid, only the jar itself.

Start by cutting off the spoon handles, leaving just the scoop heads. Do this with about 40 or so spoons; you may need to adjust the amount based on the size of your jar and how close you glue the heads together. Next, hot glue the spoon heads to the Mason jar. Make sure the spoons are pointed up and the back of the spoon head is facing out, like an artichoke petal. Start at the rim of the jar and work your way down, layering the heads slightly on top of each other as you go. It should start to create an effect that almost resembles a pineapple.

Once your jar is completely covered with the spoons and the glue has dried, decorate it with your spray paint color of choice. You can try shimmery metallic gold, silver, black, or even a bold summery color like turquoise or pink. Finally, personalize what goes in the jar itself. This can be anything from dried flowers, faux greenery, or even a candlestick. Then you'll have a beautiful dining table centerpiece that will look good all year long.
