Who Manufactures IKEA Refrigerators?
If you've ever gotten lost in one of its massive concept stores when you were really just trying to satisfy your craving for Swedish meatballs, you'll know that IKEA sells almost everything imaginable for the home. This even includes a range of appliances, which might pique your interest if you're looking for a more energy-efficient refrigerator for your kitchen. But you're probably going to be curious as to who actually manufactures these appliances. Like many other department-like stores, IKEA utilizes hundreds of different suppliers for its products worldwide. You'll find that the store's refrigerators have been manufactured by Electrolux, Whirlpool, and Midea.
However, according to an employee via a Reddit post, IKEA no longer relies on Whirlpool for the manufacture of its refrigerators, and its top-mounted freezer and French door models are now manufactured and supported by Electrolux, whose global headquarters are in Sweden but which has manufacturing plants throughout North America. On the other hand, IKEA's bottom-mounted freezer models are made by Midea (a Chinese manufacturer) and supported directly by IKEA itself. And, of course, most of the models available come with a 5-year warranty (except for the LAGAN and TILLREDA ones, which have a 2-year warranty). So, with reliable support and competitive pricing, you might even be able to afford a built-in fridge if that's what you've always wanted.
How to find out who manufactured your IKEA refrigerator
If you already have an IKEA refrigerator in your kitchen, it's not too difficult to find out who actually manufactured it. This could be especially important if you experience an issue and need some support with your appliance. All you have to do is look for the supplier number, which you'll find on a sticker somewhere along the inside frame of your appliance. The supplier number has five digits and is usually situated above the barcode.
Refrigerators manufactured by Whirlpool will have the numbers 23244, 23232, 23199, 18535, or 23256. Those made by Electrolux will simply have the number 21552, and fridges manufactured by Midea will feature the numbers 23328 or 23071. The manual that came with your appliance should also have contact information in the back for who to call in case of a problem.
It might also interest you to know that IKEA chooses its manufacturers carefully to comply with the company's high-quality standards. To that end, IKEA has developed a code of conduct for selecting suppliers that prioritizes worker safety, environmental protection, and human rights. Even if you have a different brand of fridge, don't forget that there are many IKEA finds that will help you finally organize your refrigerator, so that everything is easy to find and within reach.
