Keep Those Old Detergent Lids: Use Them For DIY Solution For Organizing Drawers

Before you throw away your empty bottles of laundry detergent, you may want to save the lids and set them aside. Believe it or not, these seemingly random pieces of plastic can actually make a huge difference when it comes to keeping your home mess-free. If the idea of opening the drawers in your kitchen, bedroom, or home office gives you anxiety, then chances are you may be in need of a de-clutter day. We won't deny it: the junk drawers in our homes can be incredibly helpful. However, they completely lose their benefit once you try to find a specific item. One thing your junk drawers may need? Extra organization and storage, which you can easily create using old laundry detergent caps.

If you're a fan of watching shows on HGTV, then you may want to check out the TV network's Facebook page, where they post numerous home DIYs and hacks you can try for yourself. The very last hack was one we know we can utilize around our own homes. It's easy, quick, and can make all the difference. No tools needed for this DIY!

Pro tip: don't toss the laundry detergent bottles either. Instead, turn them into clever hanging storage or use them to DIY the cutest storage baskets

How to use laundry detergent caps around the house

Grab your various laundry detergent lids and give them a quick rinse to ensure you've removed any remaining residue from the soap. Once the caps have dried, it's as simple as turning them upside down and arranging them in your junk drawers, using them as tiny compartments for all of those various items that tend to get messy. We're talking paper clips, stamps, thumbtacks, bobby pins, charger blocks, safety pins, hair ties, screws, and the list goes on. The drawers can immediately feel more manageable once you've sorted out the chaos. You can even add tiny labels if you'd like. Obviously, these lids can't hold everything, but they are an excellent start for the tiny items that get lost.

Besides using these caps as organizers for the various junk drawers around your home, you can actually use them in other rooms and storage areas. They can hold foyer necessities like keys or even pet treats. They can hold cotton balls and Q-tips for the bathroom, or erasers and buttons for a craft area. If you're in a pinch, you can even use them to organize your jewelry, like earring pairs, pins, and rings. Lastly, you can even use them to deter pests. Flip the lid upside down and pour in water and a few drops of soap to make a DIY water trap to keep mosquitoes out of your home.
