Candles are available in various shapes, colors, sizes, and styles. You can employ them as is, or pop them in pretty holders to further elevate their aesthetic appeal. Although traditionally utilized to light up houses or better illuminate low-lit areas, candles are great for decorating homes in beautiful ways. If you're leaning towards the decorating aspect, but don't wish to spend a lot on a new holder, try a sweet DIY shared by redeux_style on TikTok. She recommends wrapping an old drawer liner around a hurricane vase before popping in candles for a romantic and stylish glow up.

This is a beginner- and budget-friendly craft that allows you to reuse that old shelf liner instead of throwing it out. If possible, try using one that's non-slip and see-through so it adheres better to the base and lets light through. Moreover, you'll need a glass vase for this DIY. Any old hurricane vase you've got lying around will work. Just give it a soapy water bath and dry it completely before using.

In case you don't have one at home, look for one at your local thrift store or get a Wide Cylindrical Vase from Dollar Tree. In addition to the shelf liner and vase, you'll need a sharp pair of scissors and a double-sided tape with a strong grip, like Ezlifego's Nano Clear Tape. Finally, have a pillar candle, such as Stonebriar's Unscented White Candles, at the ready. Alternatively, you can use a Pringles can as a candle mold if you have wax at home to make a DIY candle.

How to use shelf liner to create the candle holder

When you have all the above-listed supplies, roll out your drawer liner on a smooth surface. Then, lay your hurricane vase on top. Next, measure the amount of liner you'll need to sufficiently cover the circumference of the vase. Take accurate measurements, since you don't want the extra peeking out from the top or bottom, or it'll be difficult to trim away the excess evenly. You also don't want to leave the rim bare or deal with any gaps in the middle. Once done, take your scissors and cut the liner in a straight line.

Now, conduct a dry run to ensure the liner hugs the vase perfectly. After you're satisfied, wrap it around the vase and stick the two ends together with small strips of heavy-duty double-sided tape. Glue might work, too, but the level of adhesion will depend on the material of your liner. For instance, Mod Podge will work on thin, fabric-based rolls but won't do well on thickened, non-slip ones.

When your decorative holder is ready, pour in a little water prior to placing your pillar candle inside. This will create a thin protective layer between the melted candle wax and your hurricane vase, preventing the former from sticking to its bottom and sides. As a bonus advantage, the water will reflect the candle's glow and make for a beautiful display. Otherwise, opt for a battery-operated counterpart, such as Homemory's Waterproof Flameless Candles, instead. Besides being easy to use, they minimize fire hazards.
