There's No Need For Drawer Liners — Keep Kitchen Cabinets Dust-Free With This Alternative

The space between our kitchen cabinets and the ceiling is an awkward spot in general. There's barely enough room to place any decorations, and even if you do, the cabinet tops are so high up the decor practically out of sight. More often than not, we forget to integrate these areas into our daily cleaning chores. They can sit and collect dust, debris, and even residual grease from your stove. You know you're in need of an intervention when you open a cabinet door and pieces of dirt and grime flutter from the top into the air and onto your food and dishware. Instead of scrubbing layers of built-up grease from the tops of your kitchen cabinets every few months, you can actually use a basic kitchen product as your cleaning hero: parchment paper. Some people use drawer liners, but parchment paper works just as well.

YouTube channel Smart Fox has over 550 thousand subscribers, with its top videos showing easy DIYs that help make your day-to-day life just a little bit easier, like cleaning your car windows with shaving cream and unclogging your kitchen drain with dish soap. In this particular video, viewers can see just how easy it is to utilize parchment paper as a must-have kitchen cleaning tool. This is a super easy DIY to replicate in your own home. Just grab your parchment paper, a pair of scissors, a measuring tape, and a roll of sticky tape. It doesn't matter what color paper you choose, since in the end it will be hidden from view.

How to use parchment paper as shelf liners

Lining the top of your cabinets with parchment paper can save you so much time and effort, allowing the paper to gather the dust instead. It makes for an incredibly easy cleanup process. Parchment paper is just one of the many cute alternatives for cabinet and drawer liners — some homeowners even use peel-and-stick wallpaper for a cute pop of pattern or color. However, since the tops of your cabinets are not likely to be seen, you can opt for basic brown or white parchment paper.

First, give the tops of your cabinets a deep and thorough clean. This means removing any residual dirt, grease, and dust. Next, use the measuring tape to measure the dimensions of the top of your cabinets. Use those measurements and your scissors to cut out sheets of parchment paper. You will want to make sure the cuts are exact so you avoid having corners of paper sticking out over the edges. Finally, you can set them in place and secure them with sticky tape. To clean, peel off the paper every few months, toss, and repeat the process.

Your cabinets aren't the only places in your kitchen that can benefit from a few sheets of paper. This product can help keep your kitchen drawers clean and organized. After giving your drawer a thorough clean, lay down a few sheets of parchment paper to make it easy-to-clean and stain-free. Note that while parchment paper and wax paper may seem similar, they have some key differences that make parchment a better material for this type of hack. Not only does wax paper crumble and tear easily, but the wax itself can melt, which would be an issue for a spot like kitchen cabinets. Wax paper is not heat-resistant.
