Trying to choose the perfect range for your kitchen? While you could research every product's price, specifications, and reviews yourself, there's a much more efficient way to compare the best options on the market. Consumer Reports (CR), a nonprofit member organization that tests and reviews products, rated almost 100 electric ranges to determine the best ones. And the one appliance brand at the top of the Consumer Reports' list? Frigidaire.
In fact, three different Frigidaire electric ranges received the highest scores from Consumer Reports: the Frigidaire Gallery GCFI3070BF, the Frigidaire Gallery GCFI3060BF, and the Frigidaire Professional PCFI3080AF. All three are induction ranges. Induction ranges, despite using electricity (instead of gas) and resembling electric ranges, generate heat differently. Electric models heat a heating element (such as a coil), while induction ranges rely on electromagnetic energy to heat cookware directly.
Each of these ranges has earned the "CR Recommended" seal of approval, which means that they have been tested, reviewed, and recommended by the Consumer Reports team. When scoring ranges for this list, CR tested each product on the following criteria: cooktop low-heat and high-heat performance, baking capability, broiling capability, oven capacity, and self-cleaning functionality. It also surveyed product owners about the predicted brand reliability and satisfaction. Based on that data, the Frigidaire Gallery models tied for first, and the Frigidaire Professional PCFI3080AF was a close runner-up.
Why Frigidaire took home the top spots on the Consumer Reports list
In Consumer Reports' expert lab tests, all three Frigidaire models received the highest possible scores for cooktop high-heat and low-heat performance. To earn top marks for high-heat cooking, a range must boil water faster than other models, saving you time in the kitchen. For low-heat cooking, a range should maintain a low temperature for melting chocolate and simmering sauces. In addition to cooktop performance, both Gallery models received perfect scores for baking capability and oven capacity. All three are 30-inch freestanding ranges with five high-power elements and come with multiple cooking modes, including air fry, steam roast, and slow cook. They range in price from $2,299 (Frigidaire Gallery GCFI3060BF) to $3,299 (Frigidaire Professional PCFI3080AF), but you may be able to get them for less because of the Inflation Reduction Act.
Consumer Reports also accounted for Frigidaire product owners' opinions. The brand received an almost-perfect score for predicted brand reliability, a metric that asks owners to estimate how well the product will perform through their fifth year of ownership. While the brand owner satisfaction score was much lower, it still indicated that many people would recommend the brand to their family and friends.
Reviews of the Frigidaire Gallery GCFI3070BF reflect this. One Home Depot customer wrote, "I love the induction range and how fast it can heat with pans without the range itself getting hot." Another Lowe's customer said, "I cannot say how pleased I am with the range, instant control of [temperatures] on the glass top and the oven is just as wonderful." However, some customers weren't as impressed. Several one-star reviews reported issues with the cooktop, with some saying it's too sensitive and shuts down often, and others saying it stopped working shortly after installation.
