Bamboo Cooling Sheets Vs Texas Heat: Bedsure PureWoven Serene Blend Review

I am extraordinarily picky about my fabrics, especially when it comes to bedsheets. Ordinarily, I opt for 100% cotton, so when Bedsure provided House Digest with a sample of their Bedsure PureWoven Serene Blend Sheet Set to test and evaluate, I was intrigued by all its promises. The ability to provide "cool comfort for hot sleepers" is enticing enough, but a material (comprised of 40% cotton and 60% rayon derived from bamboo) that claims to be "softer than cotton" really got me excited.

Beyond just being very selective about my fabrics — especially bedsheets and other textiles that come in contact with my skin — I'm excited to see what degree of material artistry goes into $100 sheets these days. Having picked up some sewing skills over the last few years, my ability to recognize key tenets of high-quality textiles has never been sharper.

With a price of $99.99 (originally $129.99), I had somewhat high expectations. Between my partner, two Velcro kitties, and the unrelenting Texas heat, our queen-sized bed can get pretty stuffy at night — and our current sheets are not helping matters. Would Bedsure's soft and dreamy sheets have us happily counting sheep, or would they be sheepishly relegated to the "guest bed" pile? It was time to put this mystery to rest.

How I Tested the Bedsure PureWoven Serene Blend Sheets

Upon first receiving the sheets, I inspected their overall quality, paying close attention to texture, weight, stitchwork, thread density, and whether any lingering factory odors were present. Afterward, I washed and dried the sheets according to the manufacturer's instructions, without using any fabric softener or special detergents. When removing them from the dryer, I again considered the feel, scent, and any fading or pulled stitches. I also noted any special details that made dressing the bed easier.

To test the sheets out, my partner and I slept with them on our bed for three nights, each morning considering how well they'd performed on their key selling points. These factors include coolness, breathability, softness, and whether they stayed in place throughout the night. Because I only tested the sheets for a few days, there are some limitations to consider with this review, especially in terms of the fabric's durability.

First impressions

My first impression of my beige Bedsure PureWoven Serene Blend Sheet Set was that the color is phenomenal! To me, it reads more like a soft and clean off-white than a true tan, sand, or muddy beige. I also noticed that the sheets had a nice luster and weight to them, which was definitely hotel-like. Sometimes you can really see and feel the thread count of poorly made sheets, since not all cotton sheets are made equal. I had to admit that these were built solid, tightly woven, and smooth.

As I unfolded the sheets, my fingers grazed something delightful, and my little sewist heart leaped! Notice how my white Member's Mark sheet above has one row of stitching along its hem? Bedsure's beige sheet has two, called a double-needle lock seam – a mark of high quality. A single stitch along the hem is pretty standard in today's clothing and textiles, and it works fine. But a double-needle lockstitch shows some consideration, ensuring that the hem is extra durable, lays flat, and stays fray-free. Now here's the kicker: Those Member's Mark sheets used to be my "nice" sheets! I'm afraid Bedsure may have just raised the bar.

These sheets felt soft enough to snuggle in right out of the package. They also smelled fine — no chemical fumes like some Amazon products. As I continued unpacking them, I also noticed corner straps on the fitted sheet. We'll see how those stand up against my tossing-and-turning partner. With no special instructions besides "machine wash cold separately, tumble dry low," laundering the sheets was a breeze.

Post-wash and dressing the bed

My Bedsure sheets remained soft and smooth coming out of the dryer. As I fluffed out the bundle to dress the bed, their thickness and heaviness was also immediately noticeable, which made me wonder how cooling they could actually be. We'd suffered a warm and sweaty night before, so I knew I was primed to judge these cotton-blend sheets and their "cool" promises.

Perhaps the true measure of a sheet set lies in how easily it goes on, so I tore off our old linens and threw my new set over the mattress. Right away, I noticed the "top or bottom" tags along the short edges of the fitted sheet, a feature I still appreciate even after making my own bed for 20 years. The Amazon description doesn't lie about these sheets being deep; each side tucked all the way over the mattress with ease. No pulling, no yanking, and no broken nails. It could nearly fit over the box spring, too! I wasn't quite sure what to do with the corner straps, but when I lifted the mattress an inch, the corners snapped right into place, like some kind of genius self-tucking mechanism. Where have you been all my life?

The pocketed pillowcases were a small but much-appreciated touch. Our MLILY Cervical Neck Pillows are a little longer than standard; this resulted in a snug fit, but they actually tucked in nicely! You can see the pillow poking out from the case, but because it's covered by a beige pocket, it looks and feels much better than the raw pillow end. I'll also note that if your pillows have any dark logos, they will show through the beige color. But this has happened with all of our light sheets.

Testing for three nights

My partner went to bed about half an hour before me, but when I climbed in for the night, the sheets felt smooth, soft, and surprisingly, not sweltering. My side of the bed was still refreshingly cool, which suggested that the sheets might actually be effective at dissipating his body heat. I shifted around with more concentration than I ever thought I'd muster for judging a set of bedding, and concluded that they definitely felt soft and cool, although in my cotton-biased mind, "cool" sheets tend to also be "crisp" sheets. One of our linen closet favorites is a Ralph Lauren Cooling Crisp Cotton Sheet Set, which has a similar feel to freshly ironed menswear. While those are taught and slightly stiff, these Bedsure sheets felt more "brushed."

While they didn't tick my finnicky "crisp" box, they certainly didn't offend me, either. They weren't hot and itchy like polyester, nor were they sticky and stretchy like modal, or suffocating like flannel. In fact, they were actually very cozy — I was shocked to discover that I didn't even miss the lacking 60% cotton. My partner didn't find them especially remarkable our first night, but I know for a fact he doesn't share my sense of textile snobbery.

Bedsure's sheets may not be the coolest, but they're undeniably cozy

Two of my favorite feelings are when you shift in your sleep and tuck your foot into a cool part of the bed, or you flip over a pillow, and the new side graces your cheek. These sheets certainly deliver on that front. They feel especially cool when you first slip into bed, and they don't seem to trap too much heat, but I'm torn on whether the cooling bedding really works on hot nights. Based on my limited three-night experience, both my partner and I still felt a little warm, and he got out of bed once to turn down the thermostat. Of course, it's important to note that this could be related to our duvet, our cramped quarters, or our summertime climate, rather than the sheets themselves. All to say, I still slept comfortably, despite being wedged between a human and a big orange cat every night.

Coolness aside, I was pleased that these sheets feel exceptionally soft, remarkably comfortable, and overall well-made. The viscose blend also seems durable enough, but I will have to wait until they have been washed a few times to put that to the test. To top it all off, they were a breeze to put on the bed! Even though they might not be the best sheets I've ever felt in terms of their "cooling" abilities, these hotel-like linens have definitely earned a place in our regular bedding rotation.
