Turn IKEA Mixing Bowls Into Stylish Pendant Lighting On A Budget
If you've just moved into a new home, you'll be excited about fitting it out with fixtures that reflect your style — or, you may be hoping to upgrade your property's current fixtures. While your needs might stretch to some stylish statement lighting ideas, however, your budget may not. Lucky for you, designer lonefoxhome showcased a brilliant DIY on TikTok you can copy, in which he turns a couple of IKEA mixing bowls into a stylish, budget-friendly pendant light.
This project is pretty simple, but you'll need to gather some supplies first. Head to IKEA and pick up two different sizes of the BLANDA MATT bamboo bowls. You'll also need a light cord, like this STRÅLA set, which comes with an LED bulb. Some wooden beads and a roll of twine make up the rest of your supplies. Also, don't forget to grab a drill with a handy drill attachment, like an auger or hole saw drill bit, as well as your trusty hot glue gun.
Assembling your stylish pendant light
The first thing you want to do is drill a hole in the center of each bowl. This is so that the light cord can be threaded through it. Now, glue your two bowls together so that the holes in the bases line up. To pretty up the join, thread some wooden beads onto a piece of twine and glue this around the section where the bowls meet. Next, cover the light cord with twine as well, remembering to glue it in place. Finally, add the light socket piece to the hole of your bowls and screw in the light bulb. Hang up your new pendant light and plug in the bulb before turning it on.

This DIY will also work if you already have a bulb hanging from the ceiling that needs a new shade. In this instance, you can skip buying the light cord and just attach the existing fixture into the hole in the bowls, then screw the bulb back in. Be sure to turn off the electricity before attempting this, however.
You can also customize this pendant light by painting the bowls a color that matches your decor, as well as using colored beads as embellishments. You could mix and match — paint the top bowl gold and leave the bottom one natural, for example. Or, if you're after a more industrial aesthetic, why not spray your bowls with granite spray paint? And if you're looking for even more inspiration for your lighting fixtures, there are plenty of other stunning DIY pendant light ideas that you might like to try.
