No More Stuffed Shelves: IKEA Has A Smarter (& More Stylish) Way To Store Extra Blankets
When you're trying to stop taking up precious shelf space with your blankets, why not make use of vertical space? IKEA, for example, has quite a few versatile storage pieces for a wall or door, like the IKEA GREJIG wire rack baskets, which you can easily turn into a unique blanket storage solution.
The GREJIG wall-mounted wire racks come in a set of five. They measure 23 inches in length, 11 inches in width, and 7 inches in height. While they're intended for holding mail, magazines, shoes, or hats, it's entirely possible to use them to store blankets, too. Each GREJIG basket features a wide mouth with a tapered bottom, large enough for folded and rolled up blankets.
It's a very similar idea to the viral blanket storage hack that uses a hay rack for easy organization, only a bit more affordable. While a wall-mounted hay feeder can cost $50 to $100 or more, the IKEA GREJIG wire racks cost $35 for the entire set. (By the way, the GREJIG racks are available in two colors: gray and blue.)
Using an IKEA GREJIG storage rack to store blankets
With five individual racks, you can arrange the IKEA GREJIG wire racks in any way you like, whether vertically, with each rack stacked above one another, or horizontally like a shelf, or staggered for an artistic wall look. Further, since these racks work similar to open shelving, you might also display your blankets as décor, choosing ones that perfectly suit your aesthetic. (See 10 smart ways to store blankets without baskets or shelves.)
That being said, there are a few downsides to using the IKEA GREJIG racks for blanket storage. For one, the racks can still get somewhat overstuffed if you try to cram more than a few blankets into each one. While blanket size varies, it's likely only one or two blankets will fit per rack. Additionally, if you don't fold or roll your blankets each time you use them, the wall racks could appear messy and unkempt. On a similar note, dust can also collect on blankets that aren't used frequently. Since the blankets are on full display (as we said, similar to open shelving), you'll have to be mindful that the blanket-filled racks fit your desired look, without looking out of place, or tacky.
