If you're actively trying to cut down on the plastic waste your household generates, you might want to try out laundry detergent sheets. Unlike their powder and liquid counterparts, they usually come in cardboard packaging. That means fewer plastic jugs to throw away or repurpose at home. Plus, you don't have to measure them and worry about adding in more detergent than a load requires. Moreover, they're easy to store and won't take up too much space in your laundry room. That being said, not all detergent strips offer the same level of cleaning power. Wondering which brand you should rely on? According to tests conducted by Consumer Reports, Tide Evo Free & Gentle Detergent Fiber Tiles and Arm & Hammer Power Sheets are the two best laundry detergent sheets of 2026.
Tide Evo earned the highest overall score among the 14 detergent sheets Consumer Reports tested and removed stains like blood, grass, and dirt effectively. But it couldn't eliminate coffee and chocolate stains. Arm & Hammer's Power Sheets received a more moderate overall score and effectively removed chocolate stains but had trouble with several others. It struggled against body oil, grass, coffee, and blood marks. So, even though they're the "best" among detergent sheets, CR mentions that they aren't better than liquid detergents in all respects. This means if you're solely concerned about reducing your carbon footprint and are prepared to identify and remove laundry stains as they happen, you may replace your regular detergent with strips. But don't expect them to tackle too dirty or stained clothing on their own.
The reviews of Tide Evo Free & Gentle Detergent Fiber Tiles
Despite how well (or unwell) Tide Evo performed in CR tests, we wanted to check what actual reviewers say about these detergent tiles. So, we turned to online customer reviews to understand its pros and cons better. Across the platforms we reviewed, these detergent tiles averaged at least 4.3 stars and have been reviewed by hundreds of customers (collectively). Explaining why they love these tiles for washing their laundry, a customer said, "Not only do I have a much easier time storing and handling the small, light-weight boxes, but I can feel good that I'm using less plastic and creating less waste! I've found that the cleaning power is excellent, as I'd expect from Tide, and that the square tiles dissolve easily and rinse well."
Reviewers also appreciate not having to measure detergent for each load. Others also appreciate that they're convenient, plastic-free (unlike pods), and clean dirty garments without infusing them with harsh chemicals. The manufacturer claims the sheets are hypoallergenic and don't contain any dyes or perfumes. Plus, it works well for washing delicates and embellished articles by hand.
However, not all consumers had a positive experience. Several complain about it leaving a sticky glob on their clothes and in their dryer. Some also had to deal with a chalky, white residue on their washed pieces and had to re-rinse (sometimes more than once) their laundry to get rid of undissolved soap. Some reviewers said using warmer water or smaller loads helped the tiles dissolve more completely. Reviewers are also divided on the amount of suds it creates — a few say it's too much, while others say it's not.
The pros and cons of Arm & Hammer Power Sheets
We also checked online customer reviews for Arm & Hammer's Power Sheets to find how they perform in real-world conditions. Across the platforms we reviewed, Arm & Hammer Power Sheets averaged at least 4.5 stars. Customers mostly left it a high rating because of how convenient the thin strips are, their cleansing power, and how fresh their clothes smell after a wash.
Raving about them, a user wrote in their review, "My washer and dryer are in a closet with a tight squeeze. I bought this so that I wouldn't have to pull out the soap dispenser. I thought that it probably wouldn't get the clothes as clean as a liquid. I was wrong. The clothes come out perfectly clean and smell nice. It's so convenient to just throw in a sheet." Buyers also like that they can cut plastic containers out of their laundry routine. A few reviewers also felt the sheets offered good value because only a small amount of detergent was needed for each load. Some even had success using these sheets for handwashing their clothes.
With that said, most reviewers opined that these sheets are not ideal if you want to clean heavily soiled clothes. They also don't have much of an impact on stains. A couple of customers also reported white residue on certain fabrics after washing. Moreover, one person felt like these strips led to clogged drains and said that their smell was overpowering.
