The Luxury Appliance Brand Actually Owned By Samsung

Samsung is one of the biggest names in electronics and home appliances. Its lineup covers just about every corner of the home, including televisions, refrigerators, washers, air conditioners — the list goes on and on. Still, when considering luxury home appliances, many people don't immediately think of Samsung, instead turning to brands like Sub-Zero, BlueStar, and Monogram. However, while it may not carry the Samsung label, the company actually owns a luxury appliance brand you may have heard of: Dacor. Samsung acquired it in 2016 to expand its presence in the luxury home appliance market by adding an ultra-premium brand to its portfolio, not to mention one in the American market.

However, Dacor was not really a new name. The company was founded in 1965, and it had already spent many decades building a reputation for high-end and luxury home appliances. Unlike Samsung, however, Dacor only makes kitchen appliances. Its current lineup includes refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens, cooktops, and a few other food and kitchen luxury appliances. Dacor benefits from being a subsidiary of Samsung by utilizing its technology, from the company's AI Vision and Internet of Things (IoT) voice-assistant to its SmartThings app. What both brands do not share, though, is pricing.

Samsung's refrigerators, for instance, can be as inexpensive as $729 or so, though higher-end models can cost closer to $3,800. Dacor, in comparison, is in a completely different price bracket. Their least expensive refrigerators can start at nearly $4,200, with prices climbing to $17,500 for some of the brand's most luxurious models. Microwaves tell a similar story. too. You can get the cheapest Samsung microwave for around $200, but if you want a Dacor microwave, you will have to spend at least $800.

Put simply, if you're looking for the most affordable kitchen appliances on the market, it's best to avoid Dacor. If you're looking for luxury, though, it's important to see what customers are saying about an appliance before spending an exorbitant amount of money on it.

While some Dacor appliances may come with five-figure price tags, customer reviews don't always give five-star vibes. The reviews by buyers on platforms like ConsumerAffairs and Trustpilot seem largely negative, with people repeatedly complaining about poor customer service, reliability issues, and the hassle of getting brand-specific replacement parts. For instance, one customer reported to Consumer Affairs that they experienced leaks and other problems with their Dacor refrigerator's ice maker just a few months after buying the fridge. The technician who repaired the appliance allegedly mentioned that this was a recurring problem with Dacor refrigerators.

Another buyer had similar complaints about one of Dacor's ovens, writing at ConsumerAffairs, "Since 2005 our local repair shop has had to replace the circuit board 9 times." They added, "Dacor replaced the first few boards free but we had to cover the labor. To date more than 5,000 [dollars] in repairs. Dacor would not replace the oven and had terrible customer service." Ironically, one customer blames Samsung for the issues with Dacor. In their one-star review on Trustpilot, they wrote in March 2025, "Dacor used to be a really great product until the company was purchased by Samsung. Now all warranty decisions and technical support have been re-homed to South Korea. That means you don't hear from anyone for days."

This is something you should definitely keep in mind if you are planning to buy a high-end Dacor kitchen appliance to add a touch of luxury to your home. However, the feedback hasn't been entirely negative. While there may be 348 one-star reviews on ConsumerAffairs out of 599, as of this writing, there are also 57 five-star reviews. People have been impressed by the brand's sleek design and aesthetics, and have specifically praised Dacor's dishwasher, comparing it favorably to one from Thermador, another high-end luxury appliance maker in the U.S.

Just keep in mind here that while online reviews are helpful, they do not always represent the average owner's experience. At the end of the day, you are the one who has to decide if Dacor's luxury price tag is worth the risk to make your kitchen look high-end.
