Not Bosch Or LG: JD Power Names Their Top Refrigerator Brand From An Appliance Satisfaction Study

When it's time to buy a new refrigerator, you don't want to get stuck with a dud. After all, this is one appliance you'll probably use every day — and if it doesn't work correctly, you could end up with spoiled food, higher energy bills, and a big headache. To help you make the right choice, it's a good idea to check reports from organizations like JD Power, which recently named Samsung the top refrigerator brand in its JD Power 2026 U.S. Appliance Satisfaction Study.

In the survey, JD Power asked customers about their experience with three different types of fridges: French door, side-by-side, and top-mount freezer refrigerators. Samsung earned the highest scores in each category, outperforming competitors like LG, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire. On a 1,000-point scale, the company earned the following scores: 750 (side-by-side refrigerators), 733 (French door refrigerators), and 715 (top-mount freezer refrigerators). Samsung's scores and rankings have gone up since last year's study. In 2025, the company came first in the top-mount freezer category, earning 686 points. However, it placed second in French door refrigerators (718 points) and third in side-by-side fridges (707 points), so this year's results are certainly an improvement for the Korean brand.

In addition to refrigerators, the survey also included rankings for several other appliances, including cooktops, wall ovens, washers, and dryers. Samsung cracked the top three in almost every category, snagging the highest customer satisfaction scores for its over-the-range microwaves with 716 points. The brand also got the top slot for clothes dryers, earning 727 points and beating LG, which came in second. According to JD Power, overall satisfaction with appliances is up from the previous year — and so is the number of people reporting a problem-free retailer experience.

So, what makes Samsung stand out? There are multiple factors at play, but it could help that the lifespan of a Samsung refrigerator ranges from 10 to 15 years, which is higher than the overall median of 12 years. Over on Reddit, one person who says they're an appliance technician wrote, "Samsung refrigerators are really good at cooling and have a reliable sealed system. Their ice makers in the fresh food section are a nightmare. Besides the ice maker they are good refrigerators and anyone who says otherwise is just going by their own personal experience with the ONE they own."

With that said, it's important to mention that there are some common complaints that customers have about Samsung's refrigerators, too. In fact, Samsung was not highly recommended by our home improvement experts, mainly due to issues with its fridges. Specifically, the company's refrigerators have been known to have temperature inconsistencies and early failures. Also, some Samsung models are notorious for problems with their ice makers (like the person mentioned above on Reddit).
