Transform Beer Bottle Caps Into Pretty Sunflower Decor With A Simple DIY

Investing in wall decor for your home can be expensive, and simply purchasing something off the shelf requires no time or effort on your part, making it seem less personal. If you love to craft things yourself to give your home a personal touch, then consider creating your own DIY sunflower decor made out of old beer bottle caps. This DIY project is really simple, and any crafting novice can easily give it a go. 

What you're going to need for this is a piece of wood to stick your bottle caps onto, a selection of bottle caps, a hot glue gun, and a pair of channel locks (a type of plier) to be able to bend your caps in half. To prevent the channel locks from damaging your caps, you can grab some Silicone Finger Protectors to pop on the ends from Amazon. The great thing about this wall decor DIY is that it can be made suitable for both indoor or outdoor use, depending on where you'd like to display it.

This DIY is a creative decor solution for that collection of bottle caps you have lying around and allows for your own creative input. The step-by-step is as simple as using an untouched bottle cap as the center of your sunflower and crimped yellow bottle caps as the petals. To crimp the bottle caps, use the channel locks to gently squeeze each one until they bend in half. Then, glue them down onto your piece of wood using a hot glue gun. If you like the idea of adding stems to your sunflowers, cut a piece of rope to size and stick it down.

Using yellow bottle caps means that this DIY mimics the look of sunflowers. You can either take the time to collect used yellow bottle caps, or you can paint any old bottle cap using chalk paint. Make sure to use a sealant over the top to prevent them from becoming scratched or damaged; Mod Podge works well for this. 

If yellow isn't your color and you'd prefer pink or purple, for example, then choose a colored paint that suits your creative vision. If you're particularly sentimental, collect your bottle caps over time that you've used at special events and leave them unpainted to create a truly personal piece of wall decor. Just be aware that if you display your piece outside. then it will be prone to rust. You can seal it to keep the caps from rusting, but we think that adds to the charm.
