If You Have A Pizza Box, You Have The Start Of The Cutest Fairy House

Add House Digest on Google:

If you've ever played a word-association game, you've probably never shouted "pizza box!" when given the word "fairy." But we're here to tell you the connection has never been cuter. As it turns out, you can DIY an adorable fairy house by saving your Friday night pizza boxes. Just rip off the grease-free box tops and use the cardboard as your basic construction material. It's the perfect way to add a magical touch to your home decor without going full forestcore.

You can place the fairy house on a mantel or snuggle it into a bookshelf. Or make multiple fairy houses and arrange them into a miniature indoor fairy village. There's no shortage of beautiful ways to add whimsical accents to your home with this DIY. Enjoy this project as a family affair with the kiddos around the table or as something fun to do on a random night in.

All you'll need for this simple DIY fairy house is some cardboard and a few accessories you can gather from outside or source inexpensively from your local craft store. Start by saving those pizza boxes, grab a small cardboard box from an old Amazon delivery, and gather as many twigs as you can find. Plus, grab your basic supplies, like scissors, a utility knife, and glue. You can also use crayons or paint, along with some craft moss and decorative pebbles.

How to DIY a fairy house out of leftover pizza box scraps

Begin with a small cardboard box with all six sides intact, which will serve as the base of your fairy house. Using scissors or a utility knife, cut two equally-sized trapezoids (basically a rectangle where the top is shorter in length than the bottom) out of your pizza box cardboard. Use tacky glue or a hot glue gun to attach the shorter edges of the two pieces, overlapping them by about an inch to create the roof's peak. Allow the glue to dry, then gently angle the two panels downward from the seam to form a pitched roof. Once you're happy with the shape, glue the roof onto the top of the box.

Measure two rectangle pieces to fit across the two open sides of the roof. Glue them into place, creating a full, four sided rooftop. Cut another strip of cardboard and fold it into an arched doorway, gluing it to one of the longer sides of the house as the front door. Using your handy utility knife, carefully cut out the front door and surrounding windows. Build twig frames for the door and windows, then glue them around each opening. Add larger twigs by gluing them along the house's seams.

Using remaining cardboard, cut rectangles and add them onto the roof in overlapping rows, creating a shingled roof. Give the roof a green, forestry aesthetic with crayons or paint and shade the remaining walls with brown and white. Alternatively, glue floral moss to the roof and small pebbles to the wall for a cobblestone vibe. Of course, there are plenty of fairy garden essentials you can stock up on that would look great here, like a miniature fairy, a gnome, or even aritificial grass around the outside.
