Let's face it. If you live in an older home or apartment, it's likely that your bathroom window is going to be pretty uninspiring. It's even worse if it's made from obscure glass that you can't see through, which is, to be fair, one of the tricks for adding privacy to your bathroom. If the blandness of your window really bothers you, why not give it a more luxe and upmarket look, just like YouTuber Yoduvh Essentials did? To glam up her boring bathroom window, the creator built a simple frame and covered it with clear bath mats from Dollar Tree, creating a textured panel that lets natural light through while adding privacy.
If you want to try this project for your own bathroom, you'll need a tape measure, a flat strip of PVC molding or trim that you can cut to size, a pair of miter shears, a staple gun, a sharp pair of scissors, a hot glue gun, a can of gold spray paint, and enough of the clear bath mats from Dollar Tree to cover the frame that you're going to make. You might also want to get a set of Increway gold stainless steel corner decorations to add a bit more glamor to your window cover. Alternatively, you could make the frame using timber moldings like those you would use for picture frames. But make sure you then use the best type of paint for a bathroom, namely a water- and mold-resistant acrylic or latex paint, to better withstand the humidity and moisture.
How to make your glam window cover
The first thing you want to do is measure the window to determine the size of the frame you're going to make. Once you have your measurements, cut the strip of PVC into the required lengths with the miter shears. Use your staple gun to join all four strips together to make your window frame. Place the frame on top of one of the bathmats so you can cut it to size with scissors. In the video, the creator used three of the bathmats to cover the length of the window frame. Remember to trim the mat right to the edge of the PVC strips.
Once you've cut all your bathmats, join them with your hot glue gun. You might also want to use some E6000 glue to ensure that the seams are not going to come apart. Once the glue is completely dry, place the joined mats on the frame and attach them with your staple gun. Now it's time to spray paint the whole thing to give it that luxe look. If you don't like the idea of a gold window cover, you can easily paint it any color that fits your interior decor.
The only thing that's left to do is attach the cover over your window frame using the method that you find easiest. You could use the E6000 glue again or perhaps some double-sided tape. The creator used her staple gun only at the corners, then covered the staples with the corner decorations. Whatever you choose, when you're finished, you'll love how this budget-friendly bathroom window cover doesn't sacrifice natural light but still offers plenty of privacy.
