Best known for its disinfectant sprays and wipes, Lysol is a go-to brand for Americans who want to kill viruses, banish bacteria, and keep their homes sparkling clean. Lysol, which has somewhat of a dark history, has been around for more than 100 years, but in 1994, it was acquired by Reckitt, a U.K.-based company that owns a number of hygiene and health brands around the world. In the U.S., another one of Reckitt's biggest cleaning product companies is Finish, which sells different types of dishwasher detergent, rinse aids, and more. It's also one of several brand-name dishwashing detergents you can get at Costco.

When marketing its detergents (including Finish Quantum and Finish Power), the brand often focuses on the fact that they don't require you to pre-rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. According to Finish, skipping this step could help you save "as much as 20 gallons of water each time." In online reviews, multiple buyers talked about this as well. For example, on the Amazon product page for Finish Quantum Infinity Shine Dishwasher Pods, one shopper said, "My dishes have never looked better. Glasses come out spotless with no water spots, and even dried-on food on pots comes clean without pre-rinsing." So, if you're looking for ways to save water and reduce clean-up time after dinner, it could be worth trying one of the company's detergent products.

A closer look at some of Finish's cleaning products

Most of Finish's products are dishwasher detergents, with the bulk of them coming in tablet form. (If that's not your thing, there's a liquid gel available as well.) On the company's Amazon page, the Finish Quantum pods appear to be one of the most popular detergents, based on the number of customer reviews. These tablets contain both bleach (to get rid of stains from things like coffee and tea) and enzymes (to handle proteins and starches).

Outside of its detergent lineup, Finish is also known for its rinse aid. This kind of product serves a few purposes, including reducing spotting on your dishes and speeding up the drying process. (That's why using a rinse aid made our list of dishwasher tips and tricks that dry your dishes faster.) Amazon shoppers seem to think Finish Jet-Dry Dishwasher Rinse Aid does a good job of that, considering that it has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars from more than 100,000 reviews.

Finally, there's one more category that Finish operates in: dishwasher cleaners. As the name would suggest, this type of product is designed to clean the inside of your appliance and get rid of the grease and debris that builds up after each load. For it to work, you'll add the product to your dishwasher (without any dishes or detergent) and run it on the hottest cycle. You can buy Finish's dishwasher cleaners in liquid or tab form.
