Use Old Doilies And Dollar Tree Pumpkins To Make The Cutest Fall Decor
When the days get shorter and outdoor temperatures start to drop, it's always fun to cozy up inside and work on a crafting project. If you're searching for cute fall decor ideas to keep you busy as the chillier weather rolls in, look no further than this DIY from Julie's Wreath Boutique (@julieswreathboutique) on TikTok. In the video, the creator uses doilies (and a few other supplies) to elevate a pair of Dollar Tree pumpkins. The end result? Adorable pieces that you can use to deck out your tables, shelves, and countertops for autumn.
Not only will this adorable Dollar Tree DIY get your home ready for fall, but it's also inexpensive and easy to create. If you have kids, this is a great activity to do together. The list of required supplies is pretty short. Your first stop will be Dollar Tree, where you can pick up a couple of these adorable Orange Carvable Foam Pumpkins for $1.50 each. If you don't have old doilies lying around the house, the low-cost retailer sells those, too. Aside from that, the only other things you'll need are a pack of straight pins, a paintbrush, acrylic paint (in two colors: brown and whichever shade you'd like your pumpkins to be), scissors, and a hot glue gun.
Steps for making your own Dollar Tree pumpkin fall decor
With your materials in hand, you can start creating these adorable little gourds. To do that, begin by pulling off the pumpkin's green stem with your fingers. (If it gives you any trouble, you can carefully cut it off with a craft knife instead.) Then, paint the removed stem brown or replace it with a twig from your backyard to give it a more natural look. Alternatively, if you like the green color, you can leave the original stem unpainted.
@julieswreathboutique Grab a Dollar Tree foam pumpkin, some paint you already have, and a few doilies. Little secret: look for the doilies in the kitchen section at Dollar Tree! 👀 Then head outside, grab a little branch for the stem, and you've got an adorable fall pumpkin in no time! Easy, inexpensive, and so cute! 🍂 #dollartreefinds #dollartreecrafts #dollartreediyprojects
Next, place your first Dollar Tree foam pumpkin on a piece of newspaper or a disposable plate to catch any dripping paint while you work. Use your paintbrush or a sponge to apply a layer of paint. You can choose any color you'd like (or even skip this step and keep it orange), but in the TikTok video, the creator goes with white. When it's dry, wrap a doily around the pumpkin, using a handful of straight pins to temporarily hold it in place. Secure the doily with hot glue, carefully remove the pins once the glue has cooled, and trim any excess fabric with scissors. Finally, place the painted stem (or a small twig) back on top of the gourd and attach it with hot glue.
Once you finish, you can really crank up the autumn vibes by displaying your pumpkins alongside other seasonal decor, like lanterns or jars of acorns. If you're still in the crafting mood, you could also pair your gourds with other fall centerpiece DIYs. Some of our favorite options include a pool noodle decorated with artificial leaves, a vase full of pine cones, or an old gift box with a stenciled greeting and faux autumn-inspired flowers.
