If your bathroom is looking a bit bland and uninspiring and you can't afford that glass panel shower curtain alternative from Home Depot, you can still give your bathtub curtain a more glamorous look by simply cutting it down the middle, just like a DIYer on TikTok's Hometalk has done in her own bathroom. Once the project is finished, you can open the curtain in the center as you step in and out of the tub, making it feel much more luxurious, like elegant draped hotel curtains rather than a regular shower curtain you push to one side. You'll find that this project is just as easy and more affordable than the chic shower curtain hack that uses two window curtains.

For this super-easy project, you're going to need an iron-safe fabric shower curtain (you don't even have to buy a new one if you like the one you already have), a pair of scissors or pinking shears, an iron, and a roll of double-sided iron-on adhesive hemming tape. A sewing machine with zigzag capability or serger is optional, depending on how well the adhesive tape holds the seam on your fabric shower curtain. If you're not familiar with it, a serger is an overlocking machine that creates a non-fraying edge.

Making your new luxe hotel-inspired bathtub curtain

Although the creator cut the hanging curtain in half, you might like to take it down, fold it in half, and then press the fold with your iron. To make the cut along the fold, you can either use straight scissors or a pair of pinking shears, which will create a cut that's less likely to fray. Lay your curtain flat so that the back side is facing up. Fold the cut edge of the curtain over to the back side about ½ an inch, and press the fold. Next, you want to sandwich the adhesive tape within the fold so that it bonds to the curtain as well as the folded seam. Make sure you follow the directions on the pack when pressing. This tape is commonly used to hem garments, as it is adhesive on both sides, and often this bond will be strong enough to hold the hem in place without the fabric fraying.

You do have the option of using your serger or sewing machine to finish off the edge. If you're using just a sewing machine, select a zigzag stitch and sew over the top of the folded hem that has the adhesive tape inside. However, if you want to use a serger, you'll want to overlock the cut edge before you fold it over and add the adhesive tape. Follow the same procedure for the second curtain piece, and then you can hang it back over your bathtub again. To add even more glamour to the new look, you might want to use some decorative curtain tie-backs for a lovely drape while you're not using the tub or the shower. Or you can grab some pipe cleaners to make your own DIY curtain tie-backs instead.
