Pumpkin-themed wreaths for fall have come a long way. It used to be that, as a hobbyist DIYer, you'd get your standard metal wreath form, add some silk florals and mini pumpkins to it, and call it a day. If you wanted something to fit a boho or more rustic decor theme, you might swap out the metal wreath for one made from grape vines. But, given that creative people create, it was inevitable that some clever designer would come up with the ultimate mash-up — a wreath form shaped like everyone's favorite autumn squash. And they have. Given that most pumpkins are already inherently cute, it doesn't take much to dress up the pumpkin-shaped wreath form — just some fluffy yarn, a handful of twigs, and every crafter's power tool of choice, a hot glue gun.
This cute fall wreath craft sprouted from the mind of YouTube crafter Kelly Barlow Creations. It was her idea to cover an item like the Holiday Autumn Pumpkin-Shaped Wreath Form with thick, fluffy yarn. If you're following suit, your best bet is a chenille yarn, like Lpalats Chunky Yarn for Crocheting. Thanks to its natural bulk, it effortlessly turns the bare wires of the pumpkin wreath form into something unexpectedly cozy. Next, you'll need a handful of match-sized twigs from your yard. You'll also require fall-themed wreath accessories, like silk florals, warmly-hued leaves, pumpkins, pine cones, and acorns. Finally, pull this rustic decor creation together with raffia ribbon.
Aside from the hot glue gun and some glue sticks, you'll also need scissors. Considering you'll be trimming the sticks down to size, you may additionally find a pair of wire cutters are of some additional help, too.
How to make this cute pumpkin wreath decor
This unique wreath for fall requires you to double up a long strand of yarn, and then weave it around the bars of the top of the wreath form. To do this, loop a portion of the yarn around each of the wires, and then, move onto the next wire and loop the yarn again until one horizontal row of doubled yarn forms at the top. To keep loose ends of the yarn securely in place, glue them onto the back of the wreath form. Next, cut a second strand of the yarn, which you'll again double up and weave in and out of the bars of the pumpkin form. Repeat this until you've covered the entire thing.
To create a more interesting look, alternate the colors of the yarn throughout the weaving process. Given that you add each row of yarn to the form individually, this is easy to do. Or, it would be pretty to alternate between a chenille and a fuzzy yarn, like Estako Polyester Faux Fur Yarn. This is also a cute option if you don't want two different colors of yarn. It introduces visual interest by adding some texture to the design, which keeps interior decor accessories from looking flat.
Next, trim the sticks so that they're short enough to lay across the pumpkin's stem at the top. Continue to glue twigs onto the stem until it's covered completely. Trimmed cinnamon sticks glued to the wreath form would be a lovely substitute for the twigs, if you'd prefer. Finally, decorate the top of the pumpkin-shaped wreath form with your silk florals, and then glue a bow made of raffia onto the wreath, just below the stem. Now, your rustic statement wreath is ready to hang and display.
