We all need a little more whimsy in our lives. If you've been craving something cute and quirky to add to your interior, this flower lamp is the perfect solution. It's easy to fall in love with outdoor fairy gardens that are downright magical, but don't overlook creating a little magic indoors! This easy DIY by Priti Sharma on YouTube is proof that you can make the inside of your home feel just as enchanting. She created a lamp using primarily string lights and pipe cleaners, shaped like a storybook flower.
For the materials, gather purple, yellow, and green pipe cleaners, a string of battery-operated LED lights, floral wire, cardboard, scissors, and hot glue. Start by cutting two small cardboard disks about 1.5 inches in diameter. Bend and twist the string lights into several peaks, creating a sunray-like shape, then sandwich the wire between the two disks with glue to secure it. Once the glue has dried, gently bend the lighted rays toward the center to form the foundation of your flower.
Completing your whimsical fairytale flower lamp
To create the petals, cut a purple pipe cleaner in half and fold each piece. Do the same with a second purple pipe cleaner, then use a third to wrap around and secure the folded pieces, shaping them into a petal. Repeat this process until you have enough petals to form a full blossom. Keep in mind that you can make your pipe cleaner flowers look much more realistic by gently shaping and curving the petals.
Glue the petals underneath the small cardboard disk, keeping the string light "rays" inside the flower. Next, coil a yellow pipe cleaner to create the flower's center, leaving the lights to stick out from around the center. Then, make smaller leaves from green pipe cleaners using the same petal technique. To build the lamp's base, cut two more cardboard disks just under 4 inches in diameter. Sandwich two strips of floral wire between the disks with glue, before wrapping green pipe cleaners around the base. Finally, bend the floral wire into an arch and glue it to the back of the flower head.
Once the structure is secure, wrap green pipe cleaners around any exposed floral wire. Glue the small battery pack to the base, making sure it remains accessible for switching the lights on and off. For extra charm, decorate the base with additional miniature pipe cleaner flowers and leaves. Make the design your own by experimenting with different flower colors, adding sparkly pipe cleaners, or using color-changing LED lights like these Bossern Fairy Halloween Lights. For a final storybook touch, add tiny pipe cleaner creatures or miniature fairy figurines. You can also create an entire fairytale display by turning pipe cleaners into the cutest mushroom lamp for a rustic touch.
